I think Bradley did fairly well with the talent he had. The expectations he had, were very very high though. I can only imagine the pressure Klinsmann will have.

I can only hope he gets the control he was looking for ... without it, he will not have much more success than Bradley or really any other coaching option

Yep...it's a systemic problem that needs to be yanked out from it's rotten roots. It sounds like Klinsman has demanded the need to do major surgery, and Us Soccer has finally acquiesced. Good for them, there may be some bumps along the way but time to clean house and start over.

Christmas in July! Exactly what the program and situation demanded. A whole new directive from top to bottom and a new set of eyes evaluating talent. There may have been better canidates to train and game-plan at the senior level, but US Soccer needed someone to overhaul the direction.

Completely trust that any immediate steps taken backward, will lead to jumps ahead in the future. Actually, Sunil gets points for realizing, admitting and moving forward on the mistake of not appointing Klinsmann sooner.

He better get the freedom to make the changes necessary to our development program. Interested in seeing what his first roster looks like.

If he picks Bornstein I will be pissed :)

He is a motivator and no tactician. Whether or not he can develop players is questionable as well.

Not sure if he is a great fit.

This article agrees with you on the first part...
CONS
A good manager, but not a coach.

But balances it with...
Pros
Delegation and flexibility. The Germany-Klinsmann knew that he was a complete novice in terms of coaching and decided to get the best possible help. Löw and Siegenthaler were mostly in charge of preparing the team while Klinsmann worked more like a figurehead or project-manager.

This was the conclusion...
Club soccer, especially at Bayern, where instant success is much more important than long-term reform, was perhaps not quite for him. But there's a good chance that he will modernize the U.S. setup and push through some necessary reforms. Klinsmann's energy and drive could also unlock some hidden potential in the U.S. team, especially if he manages to bring in some young, quality players and a coherent soccer strategy. Appointing the right No. 2 is absolutely vital in that respect, however. U.S. supporters must therefore hope that USSF president Sunil Gulati asked the most pertinent question in the negotiations with the new man in charge. "Who will be the coach?"

The article is here...

It should be interesting to see who brings in to be his #2, a lot will depend on how much $$ USSF is willing to allow him to spend.

On how he would describe the mentality of the country in regards to how he thinks the U.S. Men’s National Team should reflect the mentality of the U.S.:

“Studying your culture and having an American wife and American kids, mainly right now my understanding is that you don’t like to react to what other people do. I think this is maybe a starting point. I think America never really waits and sees and leaves it up to other people to decide what is next. I think America always likes to decide on its own what is next. This guides maybe towards a more proactive style of play where you would like to impose a little bit the game on your opponent instead of sitting back and waiting for what your opponent is doing and react to it..."

Coach decifer: US Soccer has enjoyed a degree of success when played with swagger, speed and aggression. We aint Italy, Spain or England. Attempting to be defensive, short passing or crossing style of play is not American Soccer. When we get possession, we will attack quickly and decisively forcing the opposition to always be wary of a counter-attack, and not allowing them to feel comfortable bringing numbers forward.

I liked a lot of what he said in his press conference, I especially liked this...

"I want Claudio [Reyna] very close to me in terms of helping in his new role as Technical Director of Youth Development," said Klinsmann, whose previous coaching stints were with the German national team and Bayern Munich. "He will always be part of the staff. He will sit with us coaches on the table, so I can tell him how I look at the game. As well as Tab Ramos, who is the U-20s coach for right now. I want his perspective and information on what's going through at training at the 20s and the U-17 level."

Love the idea of getting 2 of the most intelligent soccer players in our countries history involved in the developmental process.

You have to give it to Klinsmann, so far anyway, he isn't afraid to look or ask for help and looks to involve a lot of different people. The selection of his staff is going to be a very interesting process for those of us that care about our program.

Now, if only we can find a new Claudio Reyna player-type, we would be set. We don't have a midfielder anywhere close to him at this point.
