********* Boards Sci-Fi Adventure Jumper
Source: Variety
April 4, 2006

Thomas Sturridge, Teresa Palmer and Jamie Bell will star in New Regency's upcoming sci-fi adventure Jumper, reports Variety.

Planned as a trilogy, Jumper is the next project for the creative team behind Regency's summer hit Mr. and Mrs. Smith: director Doug Liman and producers Lucas Foster and Simon Kinberg.

Based on a 1992 novel by Steven Gould, the screenplay is being kept under wraps. Jim Uhls is rewriting an adaptation by David Goyer.

The original book followed a 17-year-old boy (Sturridge) who discovers he has the ability to teleport. He first uses his special power to escape his abusive father, and then puts his ability to use robbing banks before becoming entangled with terrorists and law enforcement.

Filming is set to get under way this spring in Montreal.

I'm pretty sure I have this book somewhere. Sounds interesting.

Crew Member Killed on Jumper Set
Source: Variety
January 26, 2007

One crew member was killed Thursday on the Toronto set of the 20th Century Fox sci-fi thriller Jumper after being struck by frozen debris in a freak accident, reports Variety.

Set dresser David Ritchie, who was 56, was pronounced dead on the scene after a large piece of frozen sand and gravel fell from the top of a wall at an outdoor set that he and three crew members were dismantling in frigid winter temperatures.

Another crew member was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and kept overnight for observation.

Filming on Jumper, starring Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson, wrapped in Toronto on Jan. 19. Cast and other crew members are on location in Tokyo.

This was one of the WORST films i've ever seen!

Cardboard acting. Crappy script. Cheap effects. I mean i wasn't expecting much but i got nothing. Nadda! Zip! Hayden Christensen has to be one of the worst actors going around. Paul Walker puts this guy to shame.

And what the hell was growing on Samaul L Jax's head?

I enjoyed the movie, fun...yeah, Hayden C. can't act but I didn't expect that to change. Worth the matinee price.

Just watched it. Not the worst movie I've seen, but it was really weak. If they weren't going to bother writing a decent story, they should have just dropped it to PG and made it a kids movie.

They spent zero time explaining the powers of the jumpers or how many there were. They obviously weren't trying to make Hayden some sort of hero, so there was no reason to root for him to succeed against Jackson. But he wasn't really a villain either.

Rachel Bilson was really cute though. I had never seen her before.

Good rental. I would have been pissed if I had paid to see it in the theater though.

this movie should have been called Dumper because it was a wretched piece of ****. I tried to see this twice. Once in the theaters and my friend and I had to walk out after 20 minutes because it was so awful and then, after back surgery, when I literally had nothing to do I made it through about 40 minutes when I decided that no drugs were good enough to make this movie tolerable so I turned it off and stared at the ceiling until it was time to take more drugs. then I went to sleep.

Great concept...so so execution. I thought this was a good popcorn movie. I was entertained. Didn't see it until it came out on DVD though. I think it has potential but they need to tighten up the writing that's for sure.

I will pick this up on Blu Ray when I see it on sale. The FX were way cool.

I got this on Bluray when Amazon had some crazy black friday sales. It came out to $6 a piece for the movies....

It's going to have to wait a while before I see it.

well, I pretty much thought this sucked, for all previously-mentioned reasons. At the VERY beginning, they had the perfect opportunity to make Christensen into a hero, or at least someone you could root for...when he was watching all the people in the flooding on the news...could have shown him jumping to a boat (raft), then jumping with the raft to the people. Would have made him instantly likable and "rooting" for him.

I thought the script was pretty weak all around. "I came through your 'jump scar' ". Like it's a commonly accepted phrase for that...despite the fact that until that moment he thought he was the only one.

And what kind of mother continues her "work" hunting the kind of people she GAVE BIRTH TO??? That's the sort of thing that makes you abandon your job & rethink everything you are/do. You live your life to protect your child at that point.

Yeah, but that would have also been on camera (TV crews) and he would have been found out.

There were a lot of plot holes that could have been fixed. The ending was very abrupt as well. About what I expected, was hoping for better.

She couldn't give up her job. She had to give up her life to save her son.
Not to mention if she gave up her job now, her new family was toast.
