I always thought he was a good tackler, but Wolfley is a student of the game, and I respect his opinion.

The thing is, though, Wolfley is speculating because Rolle hasn't yet played a single down in a game at FS, so no one, including Rolle himself really knows how well he can tackle in the open field.

One thing's for sure, he will certainly be an upgrade from Terrence Holt.

I think Rolle will lay the wood on people...and play very aggressively in run support as he did at corner. Did anyone (including Wolfley) ever question his tackling ability at corner?

And let's be real, no FS is flawless as an open field tackler, especially when the ball carrier has good moves and plenty of room to maneuver.

What it takes is instinct (to read the play and react quickly), and an ability to break down (square up, with a solid base) at the right time, so as not to overcommit. I think Role can do both and be pretty darned good at it too.

The good news is...if Rolle is just so bad at it...the team can play Aaron Francisco on running downs, for this kid's forte is tackling.

Rolle will be fine. There is no doubt he is very talented. He just was not quick enough to play CB.

He is very physical. Perfect for Safety.

Rolle's first season here, one of his great strengths was tackling. I don't think he'll have problem one.

Strange hearing positive things from MJ. This is a team with depth and has a year of the coaching staffs system that they have learned from. I am hoping for a more disciplined team without as many mistakes as last year.

capitalizing "i" is much different than misspelling out starting quarterbacks name consistantly...

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. I'm the gander in this scenario.

I'm just saying that when someone takes the time to gather information and put it out there for everyone on the board to enjoy it's kinda petty to take swipes at spelling or getting names wrong.

That was a lot of info and I was in a hurry. Next time I'll just keep it to myself.

No, please don't. Don't let the spelling police and thread police (the one's who will immediately post a link to another thread with the same, or even similar topic) bother you. I can never hear Jurecki's show. While I think he's pretty much a twerp, he has covered this team longer than anyone in the major media now.

haha oh my god chill out. Leinart's name is consistantly spelled as Leinhart... I just think its kind of weird that lots of people who talk about the Cards can't spell his name.

Agreed. The whole "h" in Leinart thing drives me nuts as well (coughjohnhcoughcough)

People need to stop taking everything so damn personal.

Maybe it's because many of us have Madden or play Fantasy FB. Maybe it's because of our intense interest in the draft, but I sometimes wonder whether we tend to overplay personnel moves and underplay personal development as determining how successful our team will be.

Aside from the more intangible stuff like "overall team morale", "X's & O's", "injuries", "luck" etc. - the changes a team can make to improve itself from one year to another are:

Roster Changes
Bring in better players. Compensate for FA's lost.

Improve the Players We've Got
Off-season conditioning. More classroom and technique work.

Functioning Better as a Team
Getting everyone in synch - make it automatic and instinctive.

We can look at lists of new and departed players, so it's easier to make judgment as to how much we've improved or regressed. But in doing so, we probably underemphasize the other two areas (i.e. player development and team play).

I wonder if there's a way to better assess these elements as we get closer and closer to regular season.

Unfortunately not. We can only wait to see it on the field once training camp starts and during the season. That and glean what we can from the "insiders", Urban and Somers; and less so from other reporters.

I get the impression that the team will function significantly better as a whole unit this coming season. :koolaid:

That comment was out of left field. He needs to learn to watch closer. I dont think we have a better open field tackler than Rolle.

Rolle likes to hit people but does not wrap up and drive. He will need to become a better tackler if he wants to be a pro bowl S.

That's right. At free safety you do not have the luxury of not making a solid tackle. If you want to see a good tackling defense, look at Tampa Bay. Every defender on that team, including cornerbacks, is a solid tackler.

The other thing Antrel likes to do is dive at the legs of runners. That may or may not bring them down.
