Just bought a PS3

I bought my PS3 a couple months ago and have no complaints....especially with the online gig. I play online ALOT(Resistence:Fall of Man)and have only experienced a few dropped games.I've been a Playstation user for many years & for me the only real reason i never went for the X-box is simple....but probably the most important element in gaming (for me)which is the controller. I hate the Microsoft controller and the dualshock has always felt better. Each has it's pro's & con's but the choice for me to go Sony PS2/PS3 was that simple really.
and the blue-ray factor.

i hated xbox controllers when i was a ps2 fanboy, then i shut up and gave the S-controller a chance and actually like it. 360's controller is like the s controller and fits great in my hands.

It feels like a bagel...it sucks and the button/stick configuration makes no sense at all when you look at a human hand.
I've only briefly spectated x-box online and it looked,played great but i don't see how it could be "way better" than sony live.
PS3 is essentially plug n play and free of charge and from what i've seen so far its free of any other problems. The auto matchmaking in terms of even skill in team games could use some tweaking i admit.
I just doubt that there's a huge difference in online play like you mentioned. I could be wrong though.

fanboy is the "ps3 is better than xbox because its cooler" attitude. Someone who wears a cards hat, shirt, shoes and socks all at the same time.

The play itself is not far apart on xbox, i play COD4 on ps3 all the time and it may even play a little better. But then, when you want to play with friends, you can see those on COD4 that you found their specific COD4 login name and added them. When playing COD on xbox, I can find you playing tetris, invite you to voice chat, talk you into leaving tetris and send you an invite to my specific room. Matchmaking, convienience, layout, options, everything online is better on xbox.

I am not here to change minds and could give a f less, my roomate is so sold on his ps3 being better but doesnt know a damn thing about the xbox and spends more time on the xbox than the ps3 as days wear on.

The NES rectangle didnt make much sense for a hand and noone complained, I hold the xbox controller and it fits perfectly and I have no issues nor do I hear anyone else playing my xbox complain. Maybe you just have really really small hands, want to work on my honda for me?

That makes sense about the friends & communication aspect. At this point i don't have a large circle of on-line gaming friends so it hasn't been an issue yet. Reliability,quality, and conveinence are what i'm focusing on & it's been fantastic.

I'm not a mechanic by any stretch. My hands are are average but i have guitar player fingers so it was more the configuration and feel more than anything. I'm sure it fits like a glove to those who use it but i can't.

I only had one friend that I would game with before I went online with the 360. Now I am at 89 because of Xbox live. That now includes some of the posters on this board.

plus on XBOX 99% of people use headsets and it is very easy to add cool people to your list and play them on any game they play, not just the game you met them on.

While I don't mind Live and all that, I haven't been able to justify getting an Xbox 360 for myself because I'm also a big PC gamer. And almost every 360 game I've wanted to get ended up ported to the PC at one point or another, sometimes even in better form. That's not a far cry from the PS3, of course, as platform exclusivity is pretty much dead, but at least my PS3 plays blu-ray movies, acts as my media server, and will eventually replace my PS2 for playing PS2 games.

I'm never going to hold it against someone else for not making the same choices I've made, I'm just saying that I have yet to find a compelling reason to buy a 360 when I have a good PC.

Wow, interesting. I guess I'll see the potential when I do finally get one, but I still see it primarily as a gaming system first and foremost.

The only game my two boys and I bought for our PS3 was Metal Gear. Aside from that it's just a bluray player. Our Xbox360 is our main source for video game enjoyment. We're waiting for the Fable patch and some downloadable content for GTA. We have a dedicated Linux media server for our MP3 which connects to our HD media streamer. So we have HD content available on demand to all HD TVs in the house and music available to all IPODs.

We have over 600 DVD's available on demand to any TV in the house and nearly 20,000 MP3. This runs on a dedicated Linux server with an external drive array with 10 terabytes of space. Not to mention our extensive Wii Homebrew collection and jailbreak IPOD apps. The Army taught me too well....

The next step is to upgrade the house to Blu-Ray which will increase the amount of disk space I will need

When it comes to gaming, I'm a PC guy. I'm pretty close to being anti-console when it comes to high-end games.

But, we needed an upgrade over our PS2. The Bluray is a major plus, and the family will get good use out of the gaming it will provide.

I'm disappointed that there is no backward compatibility with PS2 titles with the build I bought (newer PS3's are engineered that way) but I can understand the business aspect of Sony's decision to do that.

Can't wait to fire up Rock Band 2 on Christmas day...w00t!

It allows you to install 3rd party apps on your IPOD touch and IPhone without having to go through Apple (i.e. pay for it). You can fully customize the icons, and just about anything else. The most cool feature I have found is this program that allows you to control your computer from the IPOD Touch. I can SSH into my main computer from the couch, it's great

But truly, not much. It is primarily a bluray player for us, and media server. The multi-functionality is great.
