To be fair, every player will have a hard time against guys like Wall, Westbrook, Irving, and Curry.
Yeah that is true.

And I've always said PG defense doesn't matter because the best ones will score regardless due to pick and rolls and such. That's why I never had an issue with Nash's defense or Dragic's defense.

Even part of the reason Harden in Houston works is since he's now the PG and like I said, PG defense doesn't matter all that much.

Ulis just needs to work on becoming more consistent with his shot. The reason IT became the superstar player that he is today is because of his jumper and how consistent he is with it. He was actually pretty consistent with it since coming into the league as a rookie. If Ulis can just work on that and get stronger as well and add some massive weight as well then he should be fine in the long run.

Funny. I have always said the opposite. PG defense is key. While you cannot keep them from scoring, if you can make them work hard it throws an entire team out of rhythm.

You bet! Ulis is going to be 'shot over' by quite a few PGs but he is still a good defender. It shows up in the rim protection stats, for instance. He leads our backcourt players in preventing his man getting to rim and has the lowest scored against percentage at the rim. Interestingly, for backcourt players, opps percentage at the rim is not as important as a low frequency of the opps getting to the rim. Of course, the stat can be misleading - if the defender just lets his man go once he's by and doesn't contest, it's not counted as defense at the rim for him.

For frontcourt players, it's the other way round - the pctage scored against tells the story - in fact a high number of opps shots at the rim is good because that means the guy is challenging lots of shots. It can mean that, at least. It probably does in combination with a low pctage against but with high pctage against then you want to see few FGA against.

In case you're interested here are the number for our frontcourt guys:

Len..... 11.6 .494
Williams 11.7 .494
Dudley.. 5.9 .493
Bender.. 6.5 .495
Chandler 8.6 .530
Chriss... 4.2 .550
Warren.. 2.6 .553

Team avg .520 The average over all teams is .534. SA is best at .489 and Orlando is worst at .570.

Yep. I remember the KJ led Suns teams. KJ played mediocre defense for the most part. I think that is partly because of the absolute beating he took on offense. He would get mugged constantly. But when he decided to put the clamps on, he was VERY good. The entire team's defense was better then.

Hmmmn if we take Fultz or Ball, I'm not sure if Ulis would get heavy minutes, even shipping Bledsoe out. Makes me think Jackson is our pick. I think Ulis has earned heavy minutes.

I think Ulis would get minutes in a three guard rotation that included Ball (or Fultz), Booker, and Ulis.

The good old days. When we had less NBA teams guys had to back up starters. Someone like Uliss used to perfect his craft as a back up until the day either his skills surpassed the starter, or the starter retired. Now guys don't want to earn it, but want to be the starter right away whether they are good enough or not. Now you have way more teams so there is way more opportunity to move to a place that needs your position so you can start. We gave Uliss a contract like a first rounder, which I do not remember if that included a four year contract. However, Bledsoe's contract ends before that time, so Uliss really isn't looking at forever being here in Phoenix, in theory.

Ulis' contract lasts one more year than Bledsoe's.

No summer league for him. He's shut down for 3 months.

That is fine with me. I find most exhibitions to be wasteful for any decent player. I don't like these scenarios where there are established players giving about 15% effort playing alongside guys fighting to show they belong in the league and are throwing themselves all over with reckless abandon.

But... obviously I'd rather he was missing it because it is unnecessary rather than because he is hurt.
