Just Watched the Texans Game

Forgive me if these thoughts have already been expressed; I just got back home, watched the game on TiVo and haven't read the board yet (don't know if I have the stomach for it right now).

~Boldin was a man among boys in the first half.
~The block that Big (I think) laid on the guy in a screen to Boldin in the first half was viscious. I loved it.
~Harris' unsportsman like penalty was total BS. WTF?
~Swinton's return on the play that he fumbled was looking promising. That play is a microcosm of what it's like to be a cardinals fan--as soon as something looks good you get kicked in the junk with something like that.
~The tackling from our CBs was excellent. HOU ran a lot of quick passes to the WRs and none of them went anywhere thanks to sure tackles by the CBs.
~I heart Rolle.
~Josh McCown is God-awful. And, I'll be honest with you, what I always thought he had in spades, I now call into question: heart and desire.
~Navarre's footwork looks funny when he's dropping back. His short passes also look funny; I think it has to do with his delivery, but the long balls look okay (but not accurate). Weird.
~A. Smith's hit on Carr for a sack. Wow. He drilled him.
~I'll give this to Navarre, he protects the ball pretty well hhen he's getting hit and in traffic. Unfortunately, that's quite often because he still has a problem with pocket presence--he doesn't seem to know when he's in trouble until it's too late. This is the same thing I worried about when we drafted him, the same thing I worried about when we sawhim play last year, and it's what I worry about now.
~I was impressed that Player managed to keep pace with the guy running back the muffed snap on the extra point (until he ran out of gas at the 20). I'd hoped I'd never have the chance to see Player run, though.

Overall, this game should be driving home two things to the organization and the fans:
1. The Special Teams coach should not even be flying back with the team. He ought to have been fired before they even left the stadium.
2. It is of the utmost importance that we either draft a QB in the first two rounds or bring in a guy like Brees/Rivers/Carr/etc in the offseason.

Eh that depends. If you are vastly sick and dehydrated, then its pretty damn tough to do anything in a physically violent sport.

I honestly don't know how bad he was thats why I won't really say one way or the other on his performance

Well when you get a chance to read the rest of the recent threads, you'll see that today's loss was actually caused by the Bidwill family, Denny Green and Oliver Ross.

That our not-so-special teams played like hammered dog dung for the past two weeks seems to be lost in the general dislike for Denny and the owners who were stupid enough to hire him.

I dunno about that Pariah. Have you ever had the flu? I agree that he shouldn't have even dressed out if he indeed has the flu. He could get a lot of the other guys sick.

can't figure out how someone has the flu after playing in the game...seems odd to me...this is just another bone head move by Green and he is trying to play one over on the fans and the media.....I don't think it will be long before someone realizes that the Flu was made up just to get Navarre in the game. I would bet money that someone within the clubhouse will reveal this Denny Green illusion...

Uhhhh..Don't you think he could've just benched McCown if he wanted Navarre to play and McCown wasn't sick? It's not like Green is scared to make a QB change because of what they might say in the papers.

I don't think you can play the third QB unless both 1st and 2nd can't play? Can someone verify this rule?

Oh yeah, that's correct. I highly doubt McCown would've played along with it though.

While Warner was still playing my wife saw McCown on the sidelines and said he looked sick as a dog.

Actually the rule is your 2nd string QB cannot come in to play if you put in your 3rd string 1st. I.E:

Warner gets hurt, you throw in the 3rd stringer Navarre if he gets hurt you cannot throw in McCown because you allready played the 3rd stringer.

However if you do the following:

Warner gets hurt, you throw in McCown have him play a series then pull him and put in Navarre, now if Navarre goes down you can go back to McCown since he was pulled for "health reasons" and thus is "coming back into the game"




It's a wierd NFL rule.

Aside from some of our skill players, the rest of the team failed to show up yesterday. Lowlights -

- Arrington bouncing into Leckey's butt 4 yards behind the LOS\

- Hodel's over-the-head snap

- Orlando ("I Don't Need No Freakin' Hands to Tackle") Huff

- Didn't Navarre being sacked remind you of Saddam Hussein's statue toppling over in Bagdhad?

- Cardinal defenders running in the other direction to avoid being trampled by Wells?

- Waiting for the yellow "penalty" sign to flash on the TV screen after each punt or kickoff return?

- "Ole!" (Oliver Ross's favorite expression)

"We is what we is" - A 4 & 12 team going in the wrong direction. To me it looked as if Dennis and his coaches had lost their players. For the better part of the past 2 seasons, I have preached patience and that we should cut Dennis plenty of slack, given his past track record for success. And I understand the danger of further de-stablizing and already unstable roster and system.

My patience has all but run out. My frustration centers on (a) our not fixing a seriously broken offensive line - despite knowing it was our main problem, (b) not adding ballast to our run defense - despite knowing etc. etc., (c) watching other teams with fractures at various roster positions due to injuries somehow perservere, (d) trying to get by "on the cheap" in terms of QB talent and depth and (e) watching Cardinal players not playing smart, not playing physical and not playing hard for Dennis against the (formerly) worst team in the NFL.

Changes need to be made. My guess is that the Bidwills will be reluctant to fire Dennis and that Rod will be the fall-guy.

Season after season, you can pick apart every decision made by Management and the coaching staff, and individually, those decisions don't look all that bad. But, in the end, the outcome is the same each year - i.e. "it's always something."

It isn't as though the Bidwills haven't taken different tacs over the past 3 or 4 decades of mostly sub-500 football. It's just that nothing has worked. One thing they've never really done, however, has been to relinquish authority to a high-powered GM (like a Bill Polian), get out of the way and give him full control of the football team; including the hiring and firing of personnel - including the head coach. (Note - The closest they came to doing this was hiring Fergy, but he was more of a super-scout than he was the "total package" with complete authority).

Good post Pariah. Very difficult to watch that game yesterday.

As for the above item about the unsportsmanlike penalty...I think the ref called the wrong number. I personally believe they meant to call Huff for the penalty on that play. Watch it again and watch what Huff was doing. Looked, to me at least, like Huff was basically punching the HOU players facemask as they were rolling over. If it REALLY was on Harris, that is a horrible call but I figured the ref just called the wrong number.
