Thoughts?
1. LB Sergio Kindle, Texas
Size, speed guy who plays better standing than he does with his hand on the ground. Very versatile who plays the run very well as well as rush the QB, but not the 12-sack guy some people project. Big performance in the BCS Championship.
SOB: DE Jerry Hughes, LB Sean Witherspoon, DT Dan Williams, DT Terrence Cody, DE Carlos Dunlap, DE Jason Pierre-Paul, OT Charles Brown
2. CB Brandon Ghee, Wake Forest
After watching him for a couple of games, I like what I see from him. Another size, speed guy. Has very good hip turn and covers the receiver well, but not a ball hawk and prefers to make the tackle instead. Good special teamer.
SOB: LB Eric Norwood, CB Trevard Lindley, CB Perrish Cox, TE Rob Gronkowski, OT Jason Fox, LB Daryl Washington
3. LB AJ Edds, Iowa
Sideline-to-sideline linebacker with great cover ability. Can run with most tight ends and running backs. Very rarely does he make a mistake. He's better than his more hyped teammate Pat Angerer. He moves inside and is groomed for Karlos Dansby's spot at WILB.
Random thoughts about the draft process.
- I tried my best to follow the Cardinals MO with this - pick blatantly for need, the one-year left pattern, etc.
- McClain and Spikes went fast. Didn't even make it out of the Top 20.
- Cornerbacks started rolling off the board mid-way through the second round. Only Haden was picked in the first, then Pat Robinson with the #33rd. I definitely think this changes when the process definitely starts rolling.
- Everybody went to the defensive trenches early and often. In the second half of the first, five defensive linemen went in a row. A lot of top offensive talent didn't come off the board until the latter part of the second.
- I was not too encouraged from the talent in the third when it came to filling needs. Thought about taking a tackle, but someone already picked Kyle Calloway. Tuys that I'm enamored with that filled a need were few and far between.
