He makes Antonio Cromartie look like A-Dub. That was absolutely pathetic. No attempts at all to tackle anyone. He stopped running on numerous plays that were still going and he completely just ran by a lot of other guys instead of trying to tackle.

I wouldn't be surprised if BA deactivates him after seeing all the low-lights I just saw watching the game.

I really hope we didn't just pee away 9Mil for a poor man's DRC.

The good news is I'm sure Pat P and HB will call him out on it and tell him it better not ever happen again.

Can't wait for Jeraud to get back healthy.

The way he plays on ST this won't happen. He's not ready to be a #2 yet but soon I'm hoping because he looked decent at times in coverage. His tackling was a little concerning but he's not the only one in this game

It is hard to imagine that the Cards are 11-2 this season with these types of post.

When you stop critiquing the team just because of the record you turn into pats fans and they are the worst in the league. Record has zero bearing on wether a player should be dumped on. Bethel deserves to be dumped on after the past couple weeks. Mike Wallace should not be beating this kid.

I can't tell if the pro benching posts are coming from sarcasm or not. Let's assume they're not; who should replace him? The decision to bench any player can never be made in a vacuum.

special teams ace....and,..what?? Number 5 corner? 4 maybe.....the guy is gonna make some mistakes, get beat at times......

rather than dumping on him,...transfer some of that energy into hoping the guys ahead of him are getting healthy,...so we do not have to be so deep into our depth chart.

I should have been more clear in my post, my bad. I meant make him inactive for ONE game only. Just to send a message that his play and Deion Sanders tackling style is not acceptable. And for those that scoffed at this, go back and watch the game. Hell, just watch the sportscenter high-lights. Every play where Minnesota has success shows him giving up on the play, stop running, making no attempt to tackle. I'm extremely happy with the team and this season, it just turned my stomach seeing his lack of effort so I vented.

I'm only talking about one game. Hopefully Jeraud Powers is back healthy but if not, they can scheme for it for one game. I'd rather lose the next game and get the message through that he can't pull that crap anymore than have him do that in the playoffs and we lose because of it.

I haven't seen what you are talking about because I haven't re watched the game yet, so I'm not going to challenge what you are saying, but I think it's just a bit of a strong reaction. I mean, Justin Bethel is such a special teams beast, he never shys away from a tackle on punt returns, so it's hard to imagine him truly giving no effort, but if that's what you're seeing that sucks.

Just keep in mind that this dude is a bench player who has like, never played corner before in NFL games on a regular basis and is only out there spelling Powers who is hurt. So there aren't a lot of options on a team that only has 3 corners and he has made a few nice plays this season. I think the backlash you are getting is just from having an awefully quick hook.

But hey, no player is beyond reproach, I just got done calling out Calais so if you saw him lagging out there, I'm sure it will show up on film and the leaders will correct it. :)

Lets not bench him just yet tho, lol, atleast wait till Powers is back. :) GO CARDS!

Yep. Deactivate the ST captain one game so he can learn a lesson.

Then, we can deactivate Palmer for one game for throwing a pick-6.

Then, we can deactivate Veldheer for one game for allowing a sack.

Then, we can deactivate Calais for missing a tackle.

That'll show em....

IMO Bert is correct. Trying to learn to play corner at the NFL level is extremely difficult. He has much to learn, but he won't learn it sitting. I'm actually surprised at how well he's done. He got caught in that pick play at the goal line, but that's a coaching issue. Also realize that with PP playing lights out the off corner is going to be constantly targeted. Powers got beaten several times even before he was injured.

What makes Bethel so enticing is his speed/athleticism combo. He's special and I believe he will become a good CB at an affordable price. This was a solid signing.

I agree with Harry that Bethel has played better than expected. However, I think we have to use a high draft pick on a CB, because we're dangerously thin at the position. And FA is another option.

Looks like somebody needs some therapy. Run 3 laps around the house and you will feel better. I don't think it will do anything for immaturity though. Sorry.

Better than expected? How bad exactly were you expecting because he has been pretty bad since powers got hurt. At best you can say he has disappointed more accurately you can say he's a liability if relied on to be a #2 corner.

Do you not agree if hypothetically powers was out the rest of the year bethel would be our biggest liability on the team?

No, that would still be Minter.

Powers was playing bad before the injury too.

I mentioned in the Good/Bad/Ugly thread that he did not have a good game. I noticed it also, and thought it strange since he's such a dynamo on ST. Thought maybe he's protecting some kind of injury?

First of all, it's so funny that we are 11-2 and we still have "the sky is falling" posts. Its posts like this that force me to turn off the radio when the post game show starts to let the fans call in. Too many of the callers make ignorant comments.

Bethel didn't have his best game. The defense was selling out to stop AP and the consequence was providing little help to the secondary. Bethel needs to learn how to fight through those rub routes (and I think he was the victim of offensive pass interference noncalls a couple of times).

The thing that worried me more than Bethel about the defense in this game was our tendency to over pursue and lose containment. A couple of times we let Bridgewater break out of the pocket, forcing a defender to make a tough decision about covering the outlet, or covering the QB that can run. We also didn't read screens very well. D'line gotta realize fast that if they are getting to the QB with ease, it's probably a screen and then need to break pursuit.

The defense held to 20 points though. With our offense, if we can't win a game when we hold someone to 20 points then that's on them. But we got 23. We are fine.

It's as if you just started watching Cards games... I mean, of all the people you might be concerned about from an attitude perspective, Bethel would be LAST on that list.
The guys give 100% and then some, always. He is respected throughout the locker room and his leadership is one of the key reasons why he received his extension.
