First of all, it's so funny that we are 11-2 and we still have "the sky is falling" posts. Its posts like this that force me to turn off the radio when the post game show starts to let the fans call in. Too many of the callers make ignorant comments.

Bethel didn't have his best game. The defense was selling out to stop AP and the consequence was providing little help to the secondary. Bethel needs to learn how to fight through those rub routes (and I think he was the victim of offensive pass interference noncalls a couple of times).

The thing that worried me more than Bethel about the defense in this game was our tendency to over pursue and lose containment. A couple of times we let Bridgewater break out of the pocket, forcing a defender to make a tough decision about covering the outlet, or covering the QB that can run. We also didn't read screens very well. D'line gotta realize fast that if they are getting to the QB with ease, it's probably a screen and then need to break pursuit.

The defense held to 20 points though. With our offense, if we can't win a game when we hold someone to 20 points then that's on them. But we got 23. We are fine.

Who said sky is falling sorry but I'm not just going to neglect someone playing like crap. Do you think BA thinks we won nothing needs to change?

It's called calling him out on his poor play. You don't need to deactivate him for a game for having one poor performance.

He's not saying the guy messed up in coverage. I also rewound the game at least 3 times to see who the player was that was standing around while others were attempting to tackle. Guess who it was, Bethel. The worst one was right near the sideline that was absolutely horrible.

I am surprised at the 5 mil per year last 2 years we gave him, hopefully he can evolve in to a great corner.

I agree with that missed tackle on the sideline. He just flew bye that big guy. Could have just stopped in front of him to slow him down at least.

Either way, every player makes a bone head play here or there in a game. I don't go off screaming for his head and want the team to deactivate him. That's why this thread is off.

Do you not agree if hypothetically powers was out the rest of the year bethel would be our biggest liability on the team?

Besides Minter sure. But that isn't what this thread is about. The OP wants to deactivate our best special teams player. Not bench him, but deactivate. ********.

The entire D should be deactivated for the coverage job last week.

It wasn't just a bonehead mistake. Everyone gets burned and screws up every now and then. It was lack of effort that really pissed me off. The sideline play I just watched again, he avoids the contact and just stands there as he runs by.

It surprised me because usually he is Mr Hustle.

Also to clarify, no way in hell I would bench him let alone deactivate him for it. I do expect the rest of the defense to get on his ass. If we noticed it you can damn sure bet the rest of the defense did when they watch film.

Then in that situation what 2 starters would be bigger liabilities?

I think Powers and Bethel have played at about the same level. Which is pretty amazing given Bethel's lack of experience at the position in the NFL.

I think Minter has been at, if not below their level of play for most of the season. Yea, he gets to make a bunch of tackles thanks to the guys upfront clearing the way for him. But he can't get to the QB on blitzes and he remains a steamship dragging an anchor in coverage...

I can't figure out how to upload a couple videos from my iphone that I took of the plays I'm referring to but if you watch him during the Adrian Peterson run for a touchdown in the first quarter, he could have made a tackle to prevent the touchdown but he walked and then stopped and watched as AP scored.

And the one by the sideline on the tight end was pathetic. He didn't make any effort to tackle.

I gave him a pass on a few other ones I thought he could have stuck his nose in on because the tackle was made by a teammate and it didn't really impact the game.

I thought his coverage wasn't too bad, everybody gets burned and the Mike Wallace TD was a tough crossing/rub patter for him to cover 1 on 1.

Maybe making him inactive for one game is a bit harsh but a message should be sent to show him and the team that anything other than 100% effort is unacceptable.

Anyway, I'm not a darksider looking to nitpick, I think we're superbowl bound. I just can't stand seeing players not giving 100% effort.

Well he has played decent all year and had one bad game. Too early to say he is the biggest problem on the defense.

I personally think the right side of the offensive line is a far larger concern as of late. We have seen consistent poor play from there.

On defense, our LBs across the board have played worse than Bethel.

Just my opinion, but it is too early to be reactionary on either side. They didn't give him that extension to bench him though. You can pretty much guarantee that isn't happening.

i dunno average prices. I'm a bethel fan, I was just surprised at the #s

Might be a bit over "average", but seems like a value if he's serviceable as a CB and continues at a pro bowl level on STs. I'm with you - big Bethel fan.

Best case scenario, he progresses to match his ST play as a CB and we severely underpaid.

I think he can be a solid 2 corner but his start was far from being good
4 catches allowed on 5 targets

Consider that Bethel is a converted safety from college and doesnt have much experience playing corner. He is strong and physical enough to play outside corner and jam bigger receivers at the line.

I think if he's slated to be the #2 CB next season, he'll get more coaching and develop further.
