It would be "homerism" if it were only the UofA fans backing him up; however, ASU fans are going to bat for this kid, which is the ultimate validation of his skill set. That would be like Michigan fans endorsing Braxton Miller as a budding star and a guaranteed first round pick in next season's draft.

The PAC is widely neglected by anyone in the midwest or east coast, and unless guys get caught on the radar like Mariota, they are an afterthought. ASU QB Taylor Kelly once scored 7 total TDs against WSU and it was back page news for Sportscenter.

I'm just blessed I got to watch this kid start to finish.

I guess I'm using the wrong word. I'm equating homerism with familiarity. It's like years ago when I was all over David Terrell from Michigan to be the Cards pick. I saw him play almost every game and thought he was a can't miss. I also was all over Drew Henson, Tyrone Wheatley, Alan Branch, and David Harris from Michigan.

Yeah, seeing production during games definitely skews perspective because there is emotion that is carried with it. Good or bad, watching a player live creates a more emotionally based opinion. Watching a player on film takes the natural emotion of the game out of the evaluation and can provide a clearer view.

Again, Carey is probably a 4th round player which puts him in the top 130 players in the draft. NOthing wrong with that.

It's quite the opposite for me; and I can say the same for AZ Finest, as he and I share the same opinion about UofA football players in the league.

I am a natural skeptic with UofA players transitioning to the NFL. I've only endorsed two players as can't-miss prospects in recent memory: Gronk and Foles; one of whom is, when healthy, the best TE in the league, and the other has already demonstrated the ability to be a top-flight QB. I was also lukewarm on Antoine Cason and Juron Criner, and vehemently against Chris Henry. I put Carey among the "can't-miss" prospects.

Obviously, there's natural emotion when it comes to watching your alma mater succeed in all levels of professional sports, business, and personal lives; but I take a selfish approach about my pro teams in that I only want the best players on my squad. Even if that means having 10 Sun Devils on the Cardinals's roster.

So you can accuse me of blind homerism and basing my evaluation on sheer emotion. But I like to think that I have a very good eye for collegiate and professional talent. So much so that I can put any alleged bias aside to make an objective evaluation. Otherwise, I'd say something completely asinine like Jake Fischer is the second coming of Brian Urlacher.

If he's there in the 3rd round, I'd pick him. While his 40 time isn't impressive, he looks plenty fast with pads on.

I like the accusations of homerism talking about Carey when the OP is a Sun Devil.

I wouldn't draft him until the 4th round because we have bigger needs than RB. But if we pass on him there we're pretty dumb.

This is where I sit except depending on what happens in FA and first 2 rounds, he maybe worth the luxury in the 3rd rd

I think that has been clarified.

As for Carey, I don't think he's a good fit for the Cards either. If they take a RB, it should be a bigger back. I don't see many carries for Carey on the Cards roster, especially if Williams is somehow in the plans.

What do you think about the BC back Williams around the 4th?

He'd have to be in the mix and I'd be okay with him. He ran much faster than expected and he definitely has ideal size.

I'd be all over this pick in the third round. It's not just about his speed, he changes directions quicker than any back I can remember of late.

Robert Mays has Carey in his Combine losers section.

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nfl-combine-winners-and-losers/

Ka’Deem Carey, RB, Arizona: That happens. Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said last weekend that when he watched Andre Ellington’s tape last year, he saw a player who was much faster than the 4.6 he ran in Indianapolis. We all know how that turned out

There are some times that are particularly tough to overcome, though, and Ka’Deem Carey’s might be one of them. Carey was a very productive back during his time at Arizona, but a 4.7 40 is down in the “deal-breaker” zone for running backs. There isn’t a standard for how fast a back has to be, but there is a standard for how slow he can’t be.

Maybe he'll end up being a steal and his team becomes a draft winner...

If player as talented as Ellington can fall to rd6 because of a poor 40, Carey could take a tumble as well. My opinion, Carey is a player that is much like Ellington, looks much better in pads on game day than in shorts at the combine.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, it is a pretty big tree by the way all the Arizona people think Carey might be the next Emmitt Smith, but Stephan Taylor is a good back and a good NFL back. Done, now I will get out of the way and allow you guys to get back to work crafting Kadeem's offensive rookie of the year trophy for him lol

Stephan Taylor is a good back and a good NFL back.

He certainly didn't show it last year. If you need 2 yards, Taylor will get you 3, if you need 5, he'll get you 3. Taylor looks like a guy that can play special teams and be a backup RB, but nothing indicates he'll be a top 2 guy.

and he had SO MANY chances to make that known... sorry, he is a back that runs for contact and he did not get enough touches to show what he can do in my opinion :)

Nothing wrong with pulling for ,and wanting to draft the home boy , but I will list the reasons you should not promote Carey as the next Smith.

Here is the list ------Mark Tuinei ----- Nate Newton ------ Mark Stepnoski -------Kevin Gogan ------ Eric Willams ------Larry Allen ------ John Geesek .

Unless you think our O-Line matches up well with what was known as The Great Wall Of Dallas , calling Carey the next Smith just sets him up for failure .

That was the first thought I had when I saw the Emmitt comparison.

I have no idea if Carey will make it or not in the NFL, but as a diehard ASU fan, I can tell you it brought a tear to my eye just seeing Carey in spandex at the combine and no longer in a UofA uniform on the field. Carey, Thomas from Oregon, and Tyler Gaffney. Thank god that's over.

4.7 is Maurice Clarett out of shape vodka induced stupor slow.

My favorite UofA player was Antoine Cason.. Now I have added another. KaDeem Carey.. I liked Gronk and Foles as much as the next UofA fan.. But these two, Cason and KaDeem were my favorites of all time..

I think it would be great if Cards signed him, but I'm not holding my breath.. I want this team to draft who they think is best fit for the team, not my selfish reasons.. If the Cards think KaDeem would help and they draft him, I will be ecstatic..

I do however have a bet with a guy at my work who is a OSU fan on who get drafted first, Carey or Hyde.. We have been arguing about these two guys all season..

THIRD STRING BEHIND SHAUN DRAUGHN...WHAT THE HECK???

Bump due to the spirited debate on the matter. And yes, I know it is early still.
