According to this, Carey is looking at ASU now, after committing to UofA last summer....

It is a head scratching move, becuase ASU has three stud Freshman RBs right now, and Carey who is seemingly a stud, IMO would have a tough time finding PT at ASU right now...

He is going to have a hard time qualifing anyway, but it is interesting that after verbally committing to UofA he is taking official visits to Tempe...

I imagine ASU's pitching the fact they keep two running backs on the field all the time. They second running back is really an H-back that's used in the slot and in split backs. I've been saying for for three years now the spread option is a glorified veer or flexbone scheme that utilizes more passing. Today on ESPN Ted Miller had Mazzone diagram a quick screen and Mazzone confirmed ASU's version is a glorified wishbone. So, I say all that to note the offense requires a really deep running back depth chart.

I understand why ASU would want Carey as a talent, I just don't see how productive this is going to be considering the impossible obstacles he faces getting into school. I wonder if UA has backed off due to lack of academic progress on his part. OTOH, if Carey gets plugged in with Jean Boyd, ASU has shown these kids he can show them the path to get eligible. It's not easy, but it's there. Surprised UA hasn't copied this, because it's a great way to get talent out of SoCal.

You mean having kids load up on BYU online courses that nobody can 100% verify who is actually taking the classes so one can drastically hike their GPA over a summer to the point where their terrible SAT scores don't matter. Quite the noble pursuit this path is. The reason UA and other schools haven't copied this path is because it's only a matter of time before the NCAA looks deeper into it and somebody ends up vacating wins because a recruit's uncle was the one taking his Algebra II tests.

The NCAA can't do a thing about it because it's become a homeschool standard. If you admit homeschooled students in your general admissions, you have to allow the athletes in under the same standard.
