LAWRENCE — In a matter of days Kansas basketball is facing the reality it could lose another one of its freshmen from this past season, as multiplereports Sunday mentioned Rakease Passmore intends to enter the transfer portal.

Passmore, a guard, joined the Jayhawks ahead of the 2024-25 season as a 247Sports Composite four-star prospect in the class of 2024. He appeared in 23 games off of the bench while averaging 5.0 minutes per game. He also averaged 0.7 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

Passmore follows redshirt junior forward Zach Clemence and freshman forward Flory Bidunga as Kansas players who’ve either entered the portal, or at least outlined they will enter the portal, in recent days. The Jayhawks’ season ended in March during the round of 64 of the NCAA tournament with a loss against Arkansas in Providence, Rhode Island. KU was a No. 7 seed in the West region, while Arkansas was a No. 10 seed.

Passmore, listed at 6-foot-5 and 185 pounds, arrived in Lawrence as a player with a lot of potential — and even one who had the chance to earn somewhat of a role in the rotation his first year on campus. However, once the regular season began consistent minutes weren’t there for him. Whether he’s able to find that at his next school or not, should he officially depart, him leaving would mean Kansas’ need to find depth in the portal this offseason continues to grow more and more important.
