Let's say Haley gets the KC job.

Does he take Leinart with him to help with installing a new offense?

Would the Cards make that deal or possibly offer Boldin in exchange for LJ(RB is a Cardinals need with Edge likely gone and JJ a free agent) or Gonzalez(old, but still a big upgrade not to mention Spach's career possibly over and Pope and I think Patrick both being free agents)?

I could see a mutually beneficial deal between the two teams and a bit of a safety net by being in seperate conferences.

Personally, I think LJ would be great but I don't think Haley would want to get rid of him and he is a bit of a head case. Gonzo for Leinart? Gonzo for Boldin? Probably need a draft pick thrown in there for it to be worthwhile for the Cards.

This isnt towards you its a manifestation of multiple ideas of LJ or Gonzo that I have seen recently.

LJ will cost over 8 mill and Gonzo will cost over 7 mill.

Neither is an option to be traded or traded for.

But the overall premise of possibley sending one of our O players to a coach that knows them is a thought I dont think anyone has had but should have.

No way do you trade a Pro Bowl WR in his prime or young QB for an old TE or a has been RB. I don't get the fascination with LJ. KC ran him into the ground, he has seemed to lost a step, he's got off field issues, gets paid roughly $8 mil a year, and hasn't played well since signing that big contract. Those are all Red Flags. Some in here slam Edge because he gets $5 mil a year and despite helping us get to the SB he gets labeled as "slow" and "unproductive". I hate to see the reactions about an unproductive $8 mil a year RB with off the field issues. Just say no to LJ.

The thought occured to me about Haley taking Matt because of the fact that's not unusual when teams get a HC that was an OC and are building a team, Vermeil did this with Green when he showed up in KC which is similar to what I said.

KC does need a QB, they have a very high pick though, so I doubt Matt would command their first if it went down that way and I don't see them trading Johnson.

IMO we could get a 2nd for Matt maybe which would be like the 2nd pick of the 2nd round, almost a late first type pick for him and maybe another player too.

I have no inside knowledge just occured to me it's possible.

My coworker said the same thing and a few people here are mumbling about that but to me that's just nuts.

KC has very little in terms of weapons and Kurt would have no shot at a title in his remaining time, they are rebuilding and they play outside.

I can't see that working myself.

Yeah, I thought of the same thing earlier. Bring Warner to KC to groom their 1st round QB pick for 2 years. Then it occurred to me that Warner would probably rather retire than play for a team that has no shot at winning in the next 2 years.

I'm not fascinated by him just trying to imagine who KC would be willing to part with that Arizona might actually benefit from. He's older than I thought he was (29 going on 30). He didn't start playing until he was 24 which kind of surprised me. I knew he didn't have that many seasons under his belt(6) so I'm still taken aback that his RB clock is about to strike midnight(30). He still average 4.5 ypc in his diminished state last year on a pretty bad team so he might have a year or two left on a good team but he would certainly need to restructure his deal for whoever might take--or even if he wants to stay in KC.

Same thing for Gonzo. I didn't mean to imply that the Cardinals would take on whatever either of them have in place but with a reasonable deal, I would take Gonzo in less than a second. He's 32 which isn't young but it isn't ancient and he still put up 1,000 yards and 10 TD's in '08 for a bad offense. I think he would definitely upgrade the Cardinals, especially if Anquan decides to leave. Breaston will be able to replace a lot of what Q offers from the outside but I don't think anyone on the roster is going to replicate what he gives in those tough situations or over the middle. Gonzo would be close and a great security blanket for the QB.

I really don't know much about the rest of the Chiefs' roster so maybe there are other options, I just think there might be some wheeling and dealing between the two teams. One big reason is that would allow the Cardinals some ability to trade Anquan a) where they want b) out of the conference & c) get some potential value with possibly less hassle(if Haley's there and getting some say).

Oh he may very well go.

That's one of the few places in the NFL that while not top tier is on everyone's list because of Pioli and Haley of course knows Parcells, who is Piolis inlaw.

That franchise is a great place to go especially with a new GM, total rebuild, excellent ownership, great fans, oh it's not going to be easy to turn that one down.

If he does turn that down we should all take it as a stunning compliment IMO.

The only other place he could wind up or be shooting for is I guess Dallas but that's crazy to send him there, odds are we'd have to face him in the playoffs.

Warner has been on record at least a dozen times saying he will not uproot his family again, I seriously doubt he'd do it as he ponders retirement.

Still don't want to lose Haley but I am somewhat relieved to find out that unless any of the rest of the coaching staff is offered a head coaching job, Arizona has them under contract and they won't have to let them leave. Basically, Haley will have to create a whole new staff if he takes the KC job and Arizona won't lose anyone else. Is it so late in the game that Haley might be best served in the long run to just stay in Arizona and build upon his resume' and take a possibly better situation down the line where he isn't scrambling to put together a makeshift staff for a team that's in rebuild mold?

Gonzalez still wants to be traded

KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Tony Gonzalez has gone from one tropical paradise to another over the past week. With apologies to Jimmy Buffett, no matter how much Gonzalez changes his longitude or latitude, it’s not really changing his attitude.

Barring a serious change in direction, Gonzalez still wants out of Kansas City – even more so if the Chiefs bring in a college coach, such as Kirk Ferentz of Iowa. Aside from Ferentz, the Chiefs are expected to interview Arizona offensive coordinator Todd Haley, Minnesota defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Chiefs offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Speaking in the dressing room of the players’ hotel Tuesday, Gonzalez said he expects to hear of a decision about Kansas City’s next coach by Thursday. The 12-year veteran tight end and Pro Bowl regular restated his basic desire to go elsewhere, the week after spending time in Tampa in advance of the Super Bowl. Gonzalez is hoping to finish his career with an appearance of his own in the title game; he has appeared in the playoffs only three times in his career, losing each time.

And with all due respect to the Kansas City Chiefs, the only team he has played for, Gonzalez has serious doubts the Chiefs are going to give him that chance anytime soon.

“You never know, and that’s the thing about the NFL right now,” Gonzalez said when it was pointed out to him that defensive end Jason Taylor made the same push last offseason only to see the team he left [Miami] go to the playoffs and the team he joined [Washington] not make it.

“You can go from being really bad one year and all of a sudden be really good the next year. So you have to factor that in. We have a young football team that could be really good out there in Kansas City. Now, the question is, are they going to make it to a Super Bowl? Like with Jason [Taylor], even if he’d have stayed in Miami, yeah, you could be good. But I don’t care about being good. I want to be great. I want to win a Super Bowl.”

Gonzalez’s desire for a deal follows his push in October for a trade – an effort thwarted when then-Chiefs president Carl Peterson refused to make the deal, leaving Gonzalez incensed. Even the departure of Peterson and the arrival of Scott Pioli from New England hasn’t quelled Gonzalez’s angst.
Still, he did seem mildly interested in Haley or Gailey.

“I want to see who they name as head coach,” Gonzalez said. “Yeah, I hear they’re talking to Todd Haley, but then there’s this coach [Ferentz] from Iowa State, some [expletive] like that and I don’t want to deal with that. It seems like we’re rebuilding anyway, and I don’t want to do that. I don’t know that I want to do that any more than I already have been.”
So Gonzalez seems far more interested in a future elsewhere, even if it would be somewhat bittersweet. He said he hadn’t yet talked to Pioli or team owner Clark Hunt but said he wants to be careful about how he proceeds. He has been frustrated with not only the team’s results but also moves such as trading defensive end Jared Allen, who is playing on the NFC Pro Bowl team this week.

“I love Kansas City. I really do. If I could stay there, I would. That’s why this is going to be a tough decision,” Gonzalez said. “We’ve been rebuilding. It hasn’t really seemed to go well. We won four [in 2007] and two this year. It’s getting tough. … I don’t want to make it seem to the fans in Kansas City and to my teammates that I’m abandoning them. I hope, I think, they’ll understand.”

And if Gonzalez gets his wish of a new home, he might not be alone, as teammate Larry Johnson also reportedly desires to leave the Chiefs – who, according to Gonzalez, aren’t making it easy for some players to want to stay.

“We traded away our best defensive player [Allen], by far. A game changer and you trade him away,” Gonzalez said. That’s just too much, and that’s sending a message to the guys on the team.”

I'm not sure what happened to the other Gonzalez thread, but I'd love to have him next year. What would it take to get him? The Chiefs would make us give a lot for him, but I'd like to see him here if the price isn't too much. having 2 WRs and having the maybe the best TE in the league appeals to me more than 3 WRs.

What would we get in return for Leinart? Any way we can help our defense by letting Leinart go to the Chiefs?

I'd love to see Tony swap his KC for Cardinal red. I thought he would have been a great pick-up last year...and still feel that way now.

Back to the main topic, I'm not so sure Haley is going to wind up in KC, but that may be more wishful thinking on my part.

I just don't think Haley has the experiance to manage a complete turn-around that it will take to make the Chiefs relevant again. Haley would do best to go to a team that is stacked and under-achieving. I think there are too many pieces that need to be set up in KC, before they can really start working on his X's and O's offensive schemes.

Granted, the $3MM/year raise that comes with being the head coach would entice me to KC (or even to Oakland), so I wont fault him for making the move. I just think he'll have more offers by holding out another season.

I've wondered that about Haley as well. I mean, he's barely been calling plays for over a year at this point and is pretty green in terms of experience. I know that it's en vogue to hire young guys right now but I would find it surprising for Pioli, being accustomed to what Billechick offers, would choose such an inexperienced candidate.
