Man the day after the kid commits you're calling him a huge tool?

:D

We will agree to disagree on Franklin, to me he's a shot maker not a playmaker but as I said, King may be enough of a playmaker that they can play together. Let Franklin defend the 1 and play more of a 2, King defend the 2 and play more of a 1 on offense.

Let's put it this way, the reaction on BRO to this news is crap, I was hoping he might end up at UCLA, virtually everyone really likes King including Hicks and Pierson.

yeah... I walked right into that one....

You also have to remember the 3 wings in the 2009 class and that Abbott and McMillan (more of a 2) will still be under scholarship in 2010-2011. That's eight wings for a year which is way overkill. Somebody probably has to go if only to replenish the frontcourt.

True enough, it could shake out like this if they took all of those guys though:

2010-11
PG J. McMillan/B. Thompson/G.Franklin
SG T. Abbott/T. Lockett/C. Hawkins
SF D. Walker/K.King

Thats crowded but perhaps not detrimentally so. A lot of those guys can play multiple positions and Im not sure if Thompson is a lock to get a lot of playing time anyhow.

2011-12
PG B. Thompson/G. Franklin/N. Johnson
SG T. Lockett/C. Hawkins
SF D. Walker/K.King

So for 10-11 its probably over crowded but for 11-12 you've probably only got 6 guys who would definitely get minutes and thats probably fine. Though this means guys like Kuksiks and Rudd will be playing at the 4 which is OK in Sendeks system but it sucks for rebounding and certain defensive match-ups.

*Note: Im not suggesting that would be the actual depth chart, just listing by seniority.

Also I really wish ASU would do a Midnight Madness thing, I can understand why they haven't in recent years since the basketball team was so down, but its starting to turn around and could help build a buzz. Plus now that ASU is getting some more depth (on paper at least) it could be a fun scrimmage.

Okay, good. Because there's no way Nick Johnson would ever be third an a depth chart anywhere. I'm guessing either Hawkins gets dropped or somebody transfers. There's only 120 minutes a game for the guard positions and with seven players that probably isn't going to work for both ASU and at least one of the players. These kids need to get on film even if it is a smaller school.

Arizona doesn't even do it anymore. Unless you're going to fill the place up it's probably more of a financial burden than anything. There's still usually a scrimmage later in the preseason that fans can attend.

Yah I guess I didn't think of it from a financial standpoint, just a selfish fan standpoint :p I wonder how much room there inside the new Weatherup Center for fans to watch a scrimmage, it would be cool to see one from in there and just see the inside of that place in general.

Hooray! I've posted on the internet for 4 years and not died yet.

EDIT: I just re-checked Rivals and didn't realize Tony Mitchell apparently has ASU in his top 3. That would be a great get for ASU especially considering theyre need for front court help.

Sorry it's Scout's UCLA board, Bruin Report Online or BRO.

Hicks and Pierson are the UCLA scout guys and they both really liked Keala King.

Ironically a lot of people said Stanford was the leader even though King had been saying he liked ASU all along.

Just catching up on some reading.

Sendek is indeed going to Vegas to see Nick Johnson, Sean Miller just came from there to see Johnson & Joseph practice at Findlay. It looks like its going to be an interesting month for both ASU & UA as they have a number of in-home visits scheduled Top 2010 kids.

Highlights:

- UA will get an official visit from James Johnson after a great in home meeting with the Johnsons in CA.

- UA will also get in-home visits for Doron Lamb, Odom & McCallum this and next week.

- Anthony Brown & Odom are scheduled to visit on Sept 19th.

- ASU will be getting a visit this month from Carson Desrosiers, I originally stated next month.

- According to a Sendek tweet, the meeting with Franklin went real well but no committment yet.

All this according to Zagsblog, which has become a reliable source & wildaboutazcats.com, my question is do we still get a visit from Jayvaughn Pinkston who was scheduled to visit this month as well.

Russ, I see that Stephen Holt just committed to San Diego State I believe, does Howland put the full court press on McCallum or does he wait for Josiah Turner?

ASU is probably down to Desrosiers, Mitchell, and Franklin with two scholi's remaining. The other names out there are a longshot with the King commitment and James Johnson electing not to take an official to ASU. Herb I'm guessing gets as many of those three as he can and then waits for the spring to see if he needs to fill any holes.

Arizona will take a big man (or two) and a true PG even if things fall apart and they have to settle. They'll probably only take a no-brainer wing like Lamb. Brown's visit looks like more of a formality than anything - everything points to his parents wanting a UC or Stanford education.

UCLA wasn't really interested in Holt. Greg Hicks liked him and recommended him but he said the UCLA coaches didn't agree with him. If you look at Holt's list you'll see that he didn't have any other interest at the UCLA level.

I believe UCLA is after McCallum full bore right now. They have him and his dad coming in for a visit, unusual since his dad is also recruiting him to Detroit of course. No idea where UCLA stands, people were sayign it was UCLA and UA, then it's UCLA and Detroit, McCallum denied both he said I have not narrowed it down yet I'm taking all my visits.

UCLA is VERY interested in Turner, I suspect he's their primary target in that class, definitely the primary PG target. I suspect UCLA will be a finalist for Turner but when you have Kansas, UCONN, Texas and others either heavily involved or trying to get involved, it's tough. Add in UA, Cal maybe ASU and they're going to have a lot of competition. I don't think he'll decide until this time next year. I don't think McCallum will scare off Turner, hell it's likely Jerime Anderson will still be at UCLA when Turner would be a freshman, mainly because I am not as high on Anderson as others I don't think he'll have the option of leaving early for the NBA.

My guess is UCLA won't get McCallum I just base that on the recent history, UCLA typically can't get guys outside the West, the exceptions were Luc and Aboya and they were WAY outside the West.

For UA the Johnson situation looks promising, but the recruit I am keeping tabs on is Terrence Jones. Surpisingly, his recruitment is pretty quiet at this point, he hasn't trimmed his list or scheduled any campus visits. But right now he is #1 on my wish list for UA, looks to be a spring signing.

My mistake, I remember you threw his name out there with the Dinwiddie kid and the USC commit, Wheelwright, things must have changed.

Is this a knowing statement or just "something could come out of left field!" kinda statement?

More from left field. I have a couple of contacts within the program that are leading me to believe that there could be a surprise. Nothing solid, just talk at this point. We shall see.

Yeah there was a lot of talk on BRO about him because Greg hicks was so high on him. UCLA invited him to the skills camp but he didn't go, had a prior engagement. Basically all summer people who saw him said he's just not good enough for UCLA, apparently that's how the coaches felt too.

Great news on King.

what is Sendeks twitter link?

http://twitter.com/HerbSendek

EDIT: Also on the Sendek going to Vegas front, he's probably talking to Nick Johnson like was mentioned but I forgot that Jabari Brown is up at Findlay too and he apparently has some interest in ASU. He's got no offers so far, so maybe Sendek will offer him. But again, with the plethora of guards already here and coming in youd think Sendek (especially w/ the de-commit of Caudill) would be focusing on the front court.
