Was the crowd the "loudest" of the season? Nope... But it was plenty loud. Certainly loud enough and easily more than in the acceptable range for sure!
If there was any sort of let-down in crowd noise or enthusiasm, I would tend to blame that on:

1.) The potential of many fans being out of town for the holiday.
2.) The game itself, where we played so badly right from the start... I think for the most part, the crowd was purely stunned that we let this putrid team (9ers), make a game of it right from the start...

BS and BS I didnt hvae nay problems hearing the crowd in other NFL stadiums during the "holidays" That is the biggest joke of an excuse 82.

As far as the crowd being into the game? This team had a lead in the 4th quarter. So no matter how we started it shouldnt effect the long term enthusiasm of the crowd especially when you ave a lead at home in the 4th. They should be MONSTER LOUD EVERY SINGLE TIME THAT SF TEAM IS IN THE HUDDLE TILL THE BALL IS SNAPPED!

It was not plenty loud. It was weak compared to other games and there really are no excuses for it from a fan aspect. So it had to have been the acoustics of the roof being open. KEEP ER CLOSED IMO. This crowd obviously needs it's help.

I tried think of something to add to this, but you hit every nail on the head. Good post.

Thats because as a whole Seattle has way better/more fans that we do. If we had 80,000 Abombs or Donalds there, the roof would not matter, but seeing the games on TV, I can say that many Cardinal fans are unpassionate pansies who dont even stand up on 3rd down. For that reason, we need the roof closed so that Abomb and Donalds' voices stay inside and dont drift out to the desert.

I see those guys cheer. They suck. Typical arizona yuppie fan that would attend a suns game. :)

Shane, the roof had no impact one way or another.

The crowd just did not to the bold part above...it was a weak crowd. Only got hyped up late in the game and in OT. It was strange. As I said, I got evileyed by some kid in a Fitz jersey because I had the audacity to yell at him to stand up and yell. The apathy was horrible. Roof or not, it didn't matter.

BTW, I'd add to your bold that you shouldn't stop yelling at the snap...especially on a passing play...keep it loud so the QB has to read, think and react with a loud noise in his head.

If thats the case as bolded above in your reply. It was still VERY weak on TV as compared to every single other game. Its not even close even during the times when you say the crowd was "hyped" WHY? Fixed it for ya your right but I figured that was to much to ask from a typical arizona fan. :)

Well, to be fair the TV isn't a very accurate representation of noise because they can pot it up and down, and game to game it is probably not consistent.

There was a point in the 4th quarter when it got really loud...not the loudest it has been but loud.

This stuff has to stop... Let me try to apply some logic and reason here, as it's not that complicated...

Remember, I am from NY and grew up going to Yankee, Mets, Jets, Giants and Knick games. I know "loud" like few here understand the term...
I have been here in the desert for 7 years, and have been a season ticket holder for 6 of those 7 years.
I am AMAZED that the Cards have as many fans as they at the moment. Say what you want about "true fans", "dedicated fans", blah, blah, blah...
The simple truth is that since they arrived here in the desert, the Cardinals have done nothing but re-define losing each and every year. This season, I have been blown away with the sell-outs and the noise at the stadium. To me, that shows a city that is BEGGING for W's. It shows a city that will support this team as well as any other professional sports team is supported. There is no other sports franchise (except for the Cubs) that has made losing such as art, and yet still is supported so well from by the fans.

All of this talk about Cards fans being "pansies" is total nonsense. It's up to the Great Daned team to win - period... When that happens, you will see and hear support that will bring tears to your eyes. And IMO, the fact that the W's have not happened and the stadium still see's sellouts and is as loud as anyone would ever have the right to expect it to be, is incredibly admirable and shows just how non-pansyish the fans really are...

That may be true. But every game this year that I have watched has been extremely loud. Just wierd that this one wasnt in the least.

There just aren't enough 25-40 year old hard core fans at the games. Those are the kind of people who make noise at football games. The Cards lost a lot of that demographic with their constant losing. I watched the attrition in person as every year the younger, more intense fans were replaced by older more laid back fans or empty seats.

They couldn't come back to SDS because most of the seats went to brokers or businesses. So you have the corporate types who are too cool to make noise or people who are there to watch the other team or people who have only been Cardinal fans for 27 games instead of 27 years.

I would guess that hard core fans at the PUP are probably a smaller % of ticket holders than at any other venue in the NFL.

You can rant all you want to about them but it will take a concerted effort by the Cardinals to change it. I know because we had the same kind of fans at Texas games for both Football and Basketball.

It took Mack Brown years and a special PR campaign to get the fans off their hands. Same for Rick Barnes who had to deal with an arena full of yuppie baby boomers who were more interested in visiting with their neighbors about that "cool" new restaurant they discovered than helping out the team with crowd noise.

What?
Good job. I hate to think we're getting back to the days when you couldn't give tickets away.

I don't think it's that bad yet the holiday seemed to be the big excuse.

Two out of three aint bad, Meatloaf said so.

I think over all the family event type atmosphere isn't here yet either. It's a little tough convincing the wife, kids and grandparents into a game during the holidays when each has a differing favorite team.

Bottom line is I am crazy loud the whole game and I LOVE the top open, the weather inside was outstanding. If you dont even come to games dont worry about talking about how loud it is and how the roof changes things as you have no idea. Im with donald and Abomb and never stop making noise, I am as insane as a fan can get but leve the roof open. You want noise? get on the PA and tell your crowd how to cheer, dont worry about the roof.

The two games I remember the roof being open are this one and the bears monday night game! Two of the worst games ever in that stadium IMHO. I really have no preference as it doesn't make a difference. But I would say close the damn thing if this is the type of games we get with it open!

Dont need the pill but thanks.

Oh and 2-1 is fine and dandy. But after a loss like that you might as well say those "bigreds" are easily deflated of their luck value.

But you are so old! Bobdole old.

And those bigreds don't deflate! She's the reason we were even in the game with the Hail Mary and such...

Do you remember the playoff game against the Vikes?
Yes, I was there. But that noise had little to do with the crowd. It had a lot to do with blasting "Welcome to the Jungle" during every Cardinals huddle and artificially raising the crowd noise through amplifiers the rest of the time.

The next week, Dan Reeves "accidentally" destroyed the sideline speakers before going on to the Super Bowl.
