Miami Heat rookie Kel'el Ware registered another double-double and joined Udonis Haslem in franchise history on Wednesday in a winning effort against the Golden State Warriors.
Ware produced 14 points, 10 rebounds and one blocked shot in the 112-86 victory at the Kaseya Center. He finished by shooting 7-of-11 from the field in 28 minutes as the Heat improved to 14-1 this season when holding opponents to fewer than 100 points.
The 15th pick is now tied with Haslem for the fourth-most double-doubles by a Heat rookie (11). He is tied with New Orleans Pelicans center Yves Missi for the most double-doubles by a first-year player this season after recording four over his last six games.
"He has got the IQ where he is starting to see it and is earning more opportunities," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of Ware. "He is impacting the game. That is the most important thing: impact the game. As a young guy, he is starting to get there."
Ware is averaging nine points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks on 55.9% shooting from the field in 54 games with the Heat. He ranks second among the rookie class in field-goal percentage and is fifth in total rebounds and sixth in blocked shots.
The 7-footer was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month in January, becoming the sixth player in franchise history to win. He led all first-year players in total points (208) and rebounds (111) and was second in blocks (22) and double-doubles (4).
Ware earlier this season became the first Heat rookie to record at least 20 points and two blocks in three consecutive games from Jan. 19-23. He is just the 10th first-year player since 1990 to accomplish that feat, joining the likes of Shaquille O'Neal, Tim Duncan and Victor Wembanyama.
