On AM 1060, they announced that Kelly Johnson has just been traded to Toronto for 2B Aaron Hill and SS John McDonald.

I think Aaron Hill is pretty good. He has some pop for a second baseman.

Don't know who McDonald is, but Bob Kemp says he can't hit. (Excellent defender)

Here's what I have never understood about baseball.

I ALWAYS remember that the trade deadline is July 31'st because it's my birthday but...

Why is there a "trade deadline" when teams are always doing more trades well into August?

In August, players have to clear waivers to be traded. Teams have rights to claim players off waivers, starting with the worst record.

My brother was drafted by the Blue Jays as a 2B about the same time Aaron Hill hit the bigs. We kinda knew my brother would have no chance of moving up through the system while Hill remained on the team. The Jays were really high on him and he had 30 HR's in a season. Then he had an injury (a concussion) and he was not quite ever the same. Still an upgrade over Kelly by himself, I think.

.225 in the AL East should be good from .275 in the NL West. :)

Yeah, his numbers were unbelievable in 08, but have been awful ever since. Don't see this as much of an upgrade, guess they just want to mix it up.

Maybe he'll get fat on NL West Competition?

He is in the last year of his contract. He has a club option for $8 million next year and a $1 million buyout clause.

Seems like Jay fans are really fond of McDonald and called him the heart of the team. They arw not to fond of Hill though. He cant be worse then kelly Johnson.

jay's fan dropping by....Aaron Hill may return to '08 form with a change of scenery. I can live with losing him. But really not happy about losing Johnny Mac. Love, love, love watching him out on the field. Always shows up ready to play when needed. Frick me. I sure hope you enjoy what he brings to the team on and off the field the remainder of this year. (then I hope he comes back to us.....)

Thanks for the insight. Here's hoping that both do well, and Kelly improves with a change of scenery as well.

$8M club option or $1M buyout for 2012.

He's hardly worth it. .225 AVG. and a .313 slugging avg. He doesn't get on base that often either....less walks than KJ. Not a great trade by any stretch.

When your in contention your the team that's supposed to get the better player. This is a wash at best.

Thanks for dropping by and for the info.

When I heard Hill's name I suddenly realized that I hadn't heard a thing about him since the 08 season. What happened with him did he have injuries or did he just have one good year?

I'm hoping both these guys benefit from the pitching they will see in this stretch run with the DBacks. It's a bit easier than the arms they saw in the AL East. :)

As for you guys, I always felt like Kelly Johnson had potential, Dbacks fans rooted for the guy. He would have moments where he would get key hits and make outstanding plays fielding, but then aweful stretches where he was just bad. If he could find some middle ground between good and horrible he might be a solid player. Perhaps a change will do him good. (but dont be surprised if it doesn't ):()

Aaron suffered a concussion June of 2008 and was out for the rest of the season. He just hasn't returned to form since.

Wow. ASFN mojo is a powerful thing. He went from starter to traded in 2 weeks.
