I didnt think it could happen so fast, but there were just WAY to many quotes for him not to win the most hated reporter award.
Rhett (Chicago): Why is there never any mention of Starbury for MVP? Back in they day, guys like Kevin Johnson, Tim Hardaway, Isaiah Thomas, and Magic Johnson could beat you with both scoring and passing. Marbury is the only one in the league like that, he is a fusion of Kidd and Iverson, and he's taken his team to a new level. He's a top 5 talent. I don't think he should beat out KG or TD this year, but someone should at least put him in the running.
Ken Bikoff: I don't think he's a top five talent. Garnett, Duncan, Kobe, Shaq, Iverson and Tracy McGrady all bring more to the table, and I haven't even mentioned Paul Pierce, Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd. Marbury is a talented player, don't get me wrong, but he's not the kind of guy who really makes his teammates better. It goes beyond numbers. Marbury does put up solid assist numbers, but he doesn't keep everyone involved and he can't be depended on when the game is on the line. Few people are. Marbury isn't in the same class at all as Thomas or Magic because Marbury doesn't raise the level of his teammates.
then he says
CG (DC): Did you say that "he can't be depended on when the game is on the line"? sounds kind of ignorant to me. As far as I know Starbury has hit plenty of game winning shots for the suns this season and Id argue that hes one of top players when it comes to clutch shots.
Ken Bikoff: And how many times has a key turnover or a lapse in defense hurt the Suns this year? How many times has a selfish drive to the basket instead of a kickout pass for an open jumper cut down the team's options? Marbury isn't a scrub in any way, shape or form, and he's a star in the NBA. But he has some pretty serious flaws. There's a reason that he is with his third team in his career, and it's not because of how we always comes through when the chips are down.
and
Jason Denver: Why do people say playing on a winning team gives a rookie an edge in the ROY race when the best rookies are often on bad teams with no one to take the pressure off them.....Caron Wagnor Nene
Ken Bikoff: It has to be on a case-by-case basis in my book. Stoudemire doesn't get the edge over Yao just because the Suns made the playoffs. The Suns stay in contention for the playoffs without Stoudemire. Stoudemire is a strong candidate, and I don't have a problem with splitting the award between Yao and Amare. But Yao will win the award because he is a rookie that gave the Rockets something that few teams can match -- a quality big man who developed much faster than expected. Stoudemire is still raw and his best days are still to come, but he had a great season.
then
David (emeryville): Rookie question: What's harder in your opinion... Coming from another country, not have any summers off, trying to adjust to media hype and expectations (Yao), or starting to play bball at the age of 14, coming straight from high school, facing all kinds of childhood struggles at home and in the community. ooh...toughy....
Ken Bikoff: They both are tough circumstances for anybody, and both have excelled. But it is more impressive in Yao's case because of the initial expectations placed on him. Stoudemire was just seen as a high school kid who wasn't facing the international scrutiny that Yao was. He has the weight of a billion people on his shoulders. Stoudemire doesn't have nearly the same kind of pressure.
No 2 paragraph explanation of why I was bothered by this. It is pretty blatant. All I have to say is Ken Bikoff is a jack ass, doesn't know his ****, and should be removed from the media like every other trend following sheep we see in the papers.
