Honestly, I think your both wrong. PK isnt being cut b/c he cant play. Thats absurd. Between him and Mawae they helped propel Martin to a rushing title last year and by all acounts (after he readjusted to playing center again) PK haD a fine year.
If you're going to use 2004 as an example of Pete Kendall's fine run blocking, I could easily point out 2005 or 2001-2003 as evidence why Kendall is a pretty mediocre blocker.

The zero Pro Bowls tells me all I need to know about Kendall's ability or lack thereof.

Russ are you arguing the fact that Kendell is good but is only being cut because of financial reasons or are you arguing to save face on your initial claim that it was wrong for Denny to cut PK?

Honestly, I think your both wrong. PK isnt being cut b/c he cant play. Thats absurd. Between him and Mawae they helped propel Martin to a rushing title last year and by all acounts (after he readjusted to playing center again) PK haD a fine year.

On the other hand, cutting PK was the right thing to do. He was never ever gonna play for Green. Like I have said before, dont you remember Mac and PK being best buds? Holding press conferences together, playing off each other, cracking jokes etc. PK didnt like Mac leaving and he was gonna do what it took to get out from under Denny's regime. You can argue DG didnt do the right thing with the line, but cutting PK was not one of them imo.

I'm arguing that the cutting of Kendall has nothing to do with his play last year or his expected play this year. Because Pennington is getting cut, they suddenly have to free up capspace because they need some caproom to replace Pennington, and they've decided to cut a couple of the higher paid veterans and take the hits now when they don't expect to be very good. They're also expected to trade John Abraham, I figure they'll tag him and then trade him.

As I've said many times, I understand why Green cut Kendall, I think it was a mistake in terms of playing ability, we've had a gaping hole at C since he did it, but he felt PK was going to undermine him and he cut him.

But the Jets cutting of Kendall has nothing to do with why Green cut him, it's strictly a cap move. People that are suggesting Kendall should just take a paycut to help the team are not being realistic with what happens in the NFL. Players do that to help contenders, and in most cases they don't take paycuts they get a big bonus and shrink their current salary to reduce the cap hit. Kendall is not in that situation, even the biggest Jets fan would have to concede at the moment they are not going to be very good. Unless they get EVERY player on the team to take paycuts, they're not going to have enough cap room to sign all the UFA's they would need to be very good.

they are simply cutting salaries to begin a rebuild.

I couldn't find any evidence of the Jets' cutting Mawae.

Pete Kendall made 1.8 million his last year for Seattle, and only missed 5 starts in 5 years.

Pete made 8.8, 2.7, and 2.7 million, and missed 12 starts in three years with the Cards.

Pete made 660,000. with the Jets in 2004, and only missed 1 start in two years.

I don't know how much he's due this year, but 660,000 off the 12 million cap hit from Pennington this year, wouldn't help much.

Pete Kendall coasted his whole time here, he's never been worth his salary, and that's why Pete Kendall sucks.

It was reported earlier last week that Mawae was refusing to take a paycut and would be cut.

Here's NY Daily News Rich Cimini on what he thinks about Kendall, FYI Cimini suggests the Jets are also going to ask Dewayne Robertson to restructure his contract and cut his 9.4 million cap hit this year.

One player on the bubble is LG/C Pete Kendall. The Jets should try to keep him. He played every snap last season, graded out as one of the top two players on offense and has the ability to play center and guard. It might be a tough squeeze cap-wise, but they should try to keep him around. He's also a good locker-room presence, and they'll need that kind of veteran leadership with such a young coaching staff.

Here's Kendall saying he still doesn't know why Green cut him like he did.
Q: Were you ever given an explanation of why it went down the way it did?

A: "Not really. Denny said something bizarre about me going off and playing somewhere else and playing good like he knew I would; that it would help the Cardinals because it proved that we had good players on the team. I don't know, it was kind of convoluted to me, of course. I was in a bit of a state of shock, as well."

FYI the Jets are reportedly asking Pennington, Mawae, Kendall, Curtis Martin, Jason Fabini and even Laveraneus Coles to take paycuts this year. Mawae is expected to refuse and ask to be released, Kendall appears to be taking the same route, guys in that age group don't take paycuts unless they're on a contender.

FYI, apparently you haven't been following Kendall's contract, his caphit this year is 4.575 million, reportedly his salary is 4.9 million but I guess he gets the veteran discount that Emmitt Smith got? Here's a linnk to where I got that. Not sure where you got 660K from but I assume the original deal they signed him too had low upfront salaries because he got the bonus, and now his salary has escalated.

If you scroll down to Pennington's salary you can see again why Kendall and Mawae and all the other veterans are in trouble. The new regime is trying to run the Jets the way the Patriots are run, that means when in cap trouble, you release veteran players with big contracts unless they are willing to take a paycut. Since Pennington won't work with them, he's getting cut and the resultant caphit is forcing them to probably cut a bunch of other players.

So let's assume both guys do indeed became UFA's, you seriously going to say that doesn't mean the Colts and Seahawks don't think they can play anymore?

I think we both know the answer is that both teams are thinking they are expecting far more money than we are able to pay them and field a full roster. And the Jets are thinking in light of cutting Pennington, Kendall and Mawae are DUE far more money than we're able to pay them. The difference is they can't just let Kendall and Mawae's contracts expire, they have to cut them.

The Colts and Seahawks are letting Edge and Alexander walk because they don't think that their performance is going to warrant their contract demands. That makes a lot of sense to me, since no one knows those two players better.

Spendthrift Cardinal fans would be wise to think about the fact that their own teams aren't that interested in signing them for the big money.

Pete Kendall has now been cut by 2 teams that finshed with double digit loses the season before. Can you say bad loser ?

How many Pro Bowls to Kendall make it to as a Jet ?

I guess Denny was right.

The Jets and a couple of other teams are creating a fire sale environment. It would be the greatest example of Cardinals Incompetence if they weren't able to cash in.

Fabini interests me but what I read online suggests he had his worst year last year and may not be as good as I once thought he was.

I even read that Robertson might be a longshot candidate to be cut over his salary but they didn't expect that to actually happen.

There are some good OL available after the Big 2 of Hutchinson and Bentley. I wouldn't mind bringing in Jeff Mitchell, Terrence Metcalf, Jeff Hartings, Vince Manuwai, or maybe Fonoti if his weight is in check and he shows some motivation. The question is do we need 2 or 3 O lineman?

Actually they're saying we don't think Pennington's shoulder is ever going to heal, we're going to cut him now because we expect we won't be very good this year so we might as well take the caphit now. And that's why Mawae and Kendall are going to get cut.

Pennington cut this year creates 12 million in "dead money" for the jets. He costs 15 million against the cap so theoretically he "saves" them 3 million, but that 12 million in dead money makes it a lot harder to get a reasonable QB to replace him. They've asked him to cut his salary this year(salary and roster bonus) from 9 to 1 million, supposedly his agent hasnt' even bothered to reply to the request.

So the Jets will cut him, and then cut Kendall and Mawae to give them some cap space.

Not saying the Jets think Kendall is the best Guard in the NFL or something, just that this move has very little to do with Kendall's playing ability, it's a financial move to get some capspace for the Jets to start rebuilding, and it's all triggered by the situation with Pennington because of his shoulder.

Woah, aren't the Jets like 27 million OVER the cap? That isn't all Pennington. That's several overpaid players on one team, not one.

Oh I realize that, but what's causing this sudden barrage of "the Jets are going to release so and so" is the decision to release Pennington. they were approaching veterans left and right asking them to take paycuts, but I don't think they expected Pennington to just outright refuse, it changed their plan.

I read again this morning they may even release Coles, his agent has said they're not happy with being asked to take a paycut.

I wonder if it was Kendall and Mawae who were the two offensive players saying the Jets should release Pennington because he just stands back there and isn't that good. That way they could get their money. Kendall could be a "me-first" kind of guy and DG said he would cut guys who don't buy into the team idea.

It's good to have a Pete Ken-Doll to kick around once in awhile. Kenny as his friends call him, didn't like Green and Green didn't like him. Green wanted to be in charge of the locker room and Ken-Doll thought he should be in charge of all the bad news. Kenny is gone now, but like a bad seed it pops up it's ugly head every now and then.

Dear Kenny, please get a job soon so we can see how bad you play in lets say Minny or how about Da Raiders? Can't wait till the next Ken-Doll thread.
