I consider this a good mid-level signing. Clancy is a one-gap type of DT that is more in the mold of Darnell Dockett. Last year was his first good year in the NFL from what I have read on him as well as his stats. It does look like Russell Davis has played his last game as a Cardinal. I still wouldn't be surprised to see us get another DT either in free agency or the draft. We still don't have a big two-gap DT.

As of today RK is not on the team and we have not made an offer to him.

It is believed that we did tender Langston Moore and Bulman though. But it cant be verified as that info has not been released yet.

I'm glad we tendered Moore, he looked really good last year. Also, Bulman made a play on almost every down that he was in on the 5-DL sets. If I had to choose one of the three to walk it would be Ross.

Went to a few Giants message boards and they are not to happy about letting him go.

The Giants were offering him a 4 year deal as well, but dont know for how much.

(March 11, 2006) -- Free agency has opened with a flurry. Already, numerous teams are on the board. Take a glance at the deals, and the potential soon-to-be deals.

Carolina re-signed RB DeShaun Foster to a three-year deal worth about $14.5 million.

Tampa Bay re-signed FB Mike Alstott to a one-year, $1.5 million deal.

Dallas agreed to terms with G Kyle Kosier on a five-year, $15 million deal that includes a $5 million signing bonus.

Minnesota re-signed WR Koren Robinson to a three-year, $12.7 million deal that, with options, really is a one-year, $3 million deal.

Green Bay re-signed DE Aaron Kampman.

Arizona agree to terms with DT Kendrick Clancy on a four-year, $8.1 million deal.

Far be it for me to criticize Jerry Jones, but that is a lot of money for a guard.

Yep, that's too much. I'm glad we didn't give him that.

Yes, Indeed! It seems that we did not overpay.

I love the base salary. Im wondering what the signing bonus was? Maybe 2.5 or 3 million?

This is probably the most important piece of analysis so far.

Cardinals | Clancy signing means R. Davis won't be re-signed
Sat, 11 Mar 2006 11:47:11 -0800

Kent Somers, of the Arizona Republic, reports the Arizona Cardinals signing of free agent DT Kendrick Clancy Saturday, March 11, means the team won't try to re-sign DT Russell Davis, an unrestricted free agent. The Cardinals were offering Davis slightly more than $1 million a year.

Clancy agrees to 4-year deal with Cardinals

The Cardinals agreed to terms with free agent defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy Saturday morning on a four-year deal worth $8.1 million.

The Cardinals struck quickly on the first day of free agency, bringing Clancy in for a visit along with Indianapolis running back Edgerrin James and Houston guard Milford Brown.

The visits of James and Brown are expected to extend into Sunday.

Clancy, who played last year with the New York Giants, fills a need at noseguard for the Cardinals. His signing bonus is expected to be around $2 million with salaries of around $1.5 million a year.

The deal will be signed after Clancy passes a physical.

The contract likely means the team won’t try to re-sign Russell Davis, an unrestricted free agent. The Cardinals were offering Davis slightly more than $1 million a year.

Clancy, 6-foot-1, 305 pounds, spent his first four seasons in the NFL with Pittsburgh and moved to New York last year. Clancy, 27, started last year for the Giants and finished with 37 tackles and two sacks.

Also good to note that niether Brown or Edge will be living town today if a deal isnt struck and will work on it tommorow as well. Sounds as if neither side wants to leave town until a deal is done. I think that is a great sign.

Re Clancy - From reading the bios, it doesn't seem he has too much wear and tear. A good sign.
