A solid lefty reliever, a solid bull pen prospect and a 2nd round pick... all for a guy pitching so bad I would not have cared if the DFA'd him.

I'll take it Mr Towers.

Why? Other than the remote possibility that Kennedy eventually becomes a stud and we traded him in our division...what is not to like here??

I am not sure. Will need 3 years to evaluate this deal. Can we say that the guys from the Padres are winners/gritty? Kinda doubtful. Too soon.

For sure... However, the way I see it we got as much as we could ever expect for Kennedy... Something is clearly not right with him (physical or mental), and I see no evidence to suggest he was going to snap out of it anytime soon. He was providing minimal to zero production for us.
Of course, I have no idea how they plan to fill his slot. It appears both McCarthy and Cahill are close to being back with he team - which sucks of course as they also showed squat when they were healthy...

I think it's a good trade I'm just bummed it didn't work out for Kennedy. I really liked the kid and the 2011 season (of the STOMP) was fun watching him do so well. Was always rooting for him to get it back but I agree with you guys, I dont think he was ever going to get to that form with us. Glad we got something. We still need offense bad though.

Our "#1" starting pitcher had zero victories since May. The only way to undo that was to move him elsewhere. Demoting him with the D'backs would have had no positive results. At least we got a lefty relief specialist and two others in return.

It also was a major step in maybe getting the rest of the pitching staff out of its rut. Aside from Corbin's 12-2 record (.857), the rest of the staff is 42-50 (.457).

The good news is that we didn't get rid of any of our excellent minor lague prospects to get an "arm".

Oh, so we didn't trade Kennedy for the remains of Margaret Thatcher? We got live, breathing people?

I didn't understand before. That's amazing. I thought MAYBE we might get some young new usher or soda vendor, but actual ball players? It's like Christmas in July.

No, you had it right. We traded a dead President for a dead Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, the D'backs front office has certainly been throwing Ian Kennedy under the bus for throwing at two batters' heads at the Dodgers melee.

The trade has disassociated the team from the pitcher. It makes sense.

The main reason Kennedy is gone is because he has been terrible the last 2 years compared to his 2011 season, add that to the fact that he is a Scott Boras client and this was a long time coming.

ARZ got a decent haul for him but baseball analysts are saying it was a bad move. Not sure what they are seeing but a 5.00+ ERA with no signs of getting better, I'd say getting the LH specialist and a potential future closer is a pretty decent trade. I wonder if ARZ had an interest in Street who I think would have been a huge upgrade over Bell & Putz. Maybe SD wanted too much.

When did the team throw Kennedy under the bus?

Not a Towers fan, so I'm not defending them, I'm just curious what makes you say that.

I think he got traded because he sucked the past 2 seasons and his stock was in a free fall (actually it might have already hit bottom) and the team got what they could for him.

I just disagree that he was a scapegoat, I really liked Ian and I hoped he succeeded but his performance since 2011 has been anything but Aces.
