FYI, when Sporting News published its first 2003 Draft Preview, they had Kenny King ranked as the #1 DE.
Hope we hit pay dirt.

Last year's ranking isn't worth a whole lot right now.

He'd have to be better than Wakefield, KVB, Johnson, and Pace to see the field.

He has a history of neck/shoulder stingers, and ran a 4.9 40. He's shown a lot on tape but seems a bit raw to some (not a project, though). Typical pre-draft "analysis" that lowers a guy's stock.

Um, the main reason is that he's done almost nothing on the field. He had a total of less than 10 sacks in his college career....5.5 of them in 1999.

He played nose tackle quite a bit....hard to get a bunch of sacks from that position.

I think he can beat out Wakefield and then even be a situational inside pass rushing tackle.

Just as the NFL now splits FS and SS Positions...

There are really two separate DE positions - Edge-Rusher and All Purpose.

It's not really fair to mix the 2 and compare, say a Kenny Peterson and a King with McDougle and Peek. They're two different kinds of animal.

Marmie is looking to King as a situational inside pass rusher - i.e. to play DT next to Wendell in order to get our 4 best pass rushers on the field in those situations.
