Steve Kerr was on Doug and Wolf yesterday. I didn't get a chance to post it due to business at work.

Basically he said that the Suns feel better about their depth and PG and Center due to Dragic and Lopez. He feels they need to address the wing position soon.

Doug and Wolf hammered him a lot about drafting Blair and Kerr said that teams always want defense and rebounding but his injury is making him slip.

So take that for what you will. It looks like it will be a 2 or a 3 at the #14.

Let me be the first to say: W. T. F.

The Suns already have two SGs in Richardson and Barbosa. SF is Hill and/or Barnes, depending on who comes back, and Dudley. Granted, none of the SF options is a long-term solution, but isn't the big-man need much more pressing? O'Neal is gone one way or the other, Stoudemire is always injured, and Lopez can't play.

Grrrr.

Im fine with them viewing Dragic as decent PG depth, but good God I can't believe they still like Lopez.

I agree the Suns need to do something at the wing, specifically the 3 position.

Sounds like we might be rolling out this years draft picks:

Lopez and Dragic!!!!

After all, these guys coming back again automatically mean we have more depth, right?

I'm also ready to hear "One more year!" it's been a while.

The prospect of the current management group/front office trying to fix this mess they've created is terrifying.

One good thing you can say about it is 14 is a good place in most any draft to get a wing player.

Plus, you gotta look at where we draft. Which big men will be around at #14? Blair and Mullens? If Clark is there, that pick is a no-brainer with only Blair and Mullens on the board.

Sure, that's a valid point. But then the GM should say, "We expect the best value at our draft position to be with a wing," which is reasonable, instead of, "Lopez solidifies our big man rotation and so we don't need any more help there," which is blatantly absurd and an insult to the intelligence of his fan base.

Does Kerr have a clue? My gosh. He is OK with Lopez? He is OK with our Depth? From what perspective? It sure as hell isn't defense because Kerr said it was a problem after the season. Now his main concern is a wing???? How about overhauling your roster with players who have some defensive talent?

WTF?

Holy crap. This front office is a mess.

The Suns probably have a whole lot better idea if Hill or Barnes decides to return. If neither returns, a 3 makes a lot of sense.

And let's suppose that Kerr thinks our front court sucks. Would you really want him to say that publicly? If I were stuck with a Lopez, I would not say anything that would hurt his trade value (what little there is) or his confidence if I'm stuck with him.

Why throw someone under the bus when you might be sitting next to him later?

And also ... what would the Suns have to gain in the draft by Kerr telling the world their strategy and goals?

yo e, kerr and co have been insulting the fan base's intelligence for years, why change what's broke?

in a bigger sense - HOLY SHNIKES!!! so our pg of the future is dragic. our big man of the future is lopez. i can't wait to see what our wing of the future looks like. if he's as "talented" in the eyes of this FO as were those two (over whom our FO was allegedly drooling last year) our future, though already bleak, will just become downright comical.

imo we need everything but a pf (we have that in amare). all the rest of the positions needs an overhaul or future option. of course, we're probably going to trade amare and ignore all the other positions. i hate sarver/kerr. FLEXIBILITY!!!!!!!!!

damnit, when did freaky friday happen and the suns become the cardinals and the cardinals become the suns?

Heh, I was thinking the same thing, the Cards now remind me of the 04 Suns, just loaded with talent, and an exciting young core to build around. I guess that is as good a reason as any to be cautious about the Cards, because you see how fast it can all fall apart.

Especially since they created the mess with a lack of foresight.

One can understand the Suns drafting a wing if, as Elindholm proposed, it is the BPA. Otherwise it is an insult to the fans to propose that wing is their greatest area of need. Center appears to be the Suns greatest area of need or I wouldn't mind a young PG to develop. The jury is still out on last year's draft. Is lopez going to be the Suns starting center if they move Shaq?

Hey, what about number 5 spot, which I think is the Cleveland pick we may get if Shaq goes to Cleveland? I have not watched ANY college ball this year. Is there a possibility at a PF or Center there?

Interesting! Good observation! I really think it happened when the Collangelos were forced out. You may not have liked them, but they knew basketball. They just couldn't get the right coin flips!

Kerr's comments from a different article suggest the Suns might take the best player available, regardless of position:

“We’re in transition and we’re probably going to make some moves here either this summer or next summer,” he said. “Next summer for sure there will be a lot of change with the team because we have a lot of guys who are contractually up. I don’t think you can pick for need, you kind of just have to take the best guy at this point and worry about everything else later.”

While we are definitely not set at center, there just aren't any really good bigs available after Griffin, Thabeet and Hill. I still would rather not use the pick on a guard though.

No, the #5 is if Amare is traded to Washington.
