Excerpt:
There figures to be a roster makeover in New York, and media speculation is already swirling about a Knicks-Suns deal. One paper had the Knicks trying to coax Steve Nash to Manhattan — where he lives in the summer — while another had D’Antoni trying to dump high-priced guard Stephon Marbury while bringing in favorites Leandro Barbosa and Diaw.

Kerr responded to those reports on KTAR radio with tongue firmly in cheek.

“I think it makes sense to move Amaré and Steve for Marbury and Eddy Curry,” Kerr said. “Come on. Since Mike is now the coach of the Knicks, does he just get to take all of our guys, too? I don’t think it works that way.”

Kerr said he was pleased with Diaw’s performance in the playoffs and is looking forward to the new coaching staff working with Diaw, Barbosa and Stoudemire.

“If we come back next year with our core, which we should, add the 15th pick (in next month’s draft) and a couple of free agents, then I expect to be one of the top teams in the NBA, which we were this year,” he said.

“If you watch the Spurs series, we weren’t that far off. Maybe we just need more time together.”

I seriously doubt that he's talking about using the mid level to get some guys but if he does, that means we can add at least 2 role players. That and the 15th pick would make a pretty solid bench. But I bet he's talking about using the vet min to sign Giri and Skinner.

LOL at Steve's response. Pretty dead on imo.

He's not an idiot. I am sure he is going to get a backup for Nash one way or the other.

The New York papers/media must lead the league in bogus rumors.

BTW, to me the most interesting part of that articles is where Kerr talkied of adding "and a couple of free agents".

Up to this point there was not t alk of "adding" free agents. It seemed likely they would try to re-sign Grik and Skinner while Pike was leaving to make room for their draft pick. But adding free agents is something new.

wouldn't Giri and Skinner be FA's, thats probably what he is referring to. They are not going to go out and spend money don't hold your breath on that.

That is still what I would expect, but it is worth considering.

BTW, I think Marks will be back because Kerr likes him even if D'Antoni doesn't.

Assuming Diaw is moved to SF, this would leave Stoudemire and Shaq as the only contract inside guys. Even if they draft an inside guy, that would be only three guys and usualy teams carry five.

The logic behind Marks is that he's an inside guy who can shoot effectively from the outside and is quick enough to drive the basket against slower defenders. Think a poor man's Tim Thomas.

Maybe Kerr follows NFL football and someone can use the analogy that an NFL QB needs a backup. And a PG in basketball is like a QB in football. Perhaps he can better understand it this way.

The core issue will be what the Suns do in the draft. If they draft a big and re-sign Skinner while moving Diaw to the 3 slot; they will need at least one more inside guy. He's a 12th man for the minimum that Kerr likes, so I would not rule him out.

Assuming the Suns draft a PG and still move Diaw to the 3 slot, that means Skinner plus two other guys. Of course with Kerr being terrified of getting dog doo on his driveway... :p

Re-sign GG, get a back up PG and keep Barbosa.

Move LB to the back up 2 spot permanently. Every team in the league would kill to have a player like that for the little money he makes.

Yeah, I think Barbosa has a good contract. We don't want to lose a player like that. Anyway, he's just a sixth man. So don't expect him to play like an All-Star.

This team didn't go for depth, because it's obvious that D'Antoni won't use them anyway. 7-Man rotation is what he always does. But that didn't work, so, I think, Kerr would go for depth now.

OK, no more talk about the mystical back-up pg without NAMES. Everybody wants one, but please tell me who it is going to be. He has to be

1. Better than Barbs as a pg.
2. Better than Diaw as a pg.
3. Better than Grant as a pg.
4. Better than Strawberry as a pg.
5. Draftable or "trade-for-able"
6. Content to play behind Steve Nash and NOT start.

So please, give me a list.

I am not so sure that our best option isn't already on the team.

Re-sign Marks.
New Zealand's unemployment numbers are near their all time low. Let's keep it like that.

Please no more Skinner

Marks is the much better player and i have never understood why Marks does not get playing time good jump shot, ok rebounder, takes it to the rack when ever he gets a chance, his D is no good but Skinners is over hyped anyways.

If strawberry can get a jump shot this summer he will play

I would love to see the suns draft a guy that is 6-9 or 6-10 with SF skills but could play the 4 for 10 to 15 min a game( I love that Donte Green kid from Syr. I think he would be perfect fit for the suns he is 6-10 and can shoot lights out)

Get Lindsay Hunter!!!!!!!!
Keep Gordon and Marks
Add Green and a 2nd rd pick(SG

Shaq,Stat,Diaw,Bell,Nash
Marks,Green,Hill,LB,Hunter,Gordon,Strawberry,Tucker/2nd rd

Or dont re sign Gordon and sign KT:)bang: ) or Kwame Brown

So KT or Brown,Marks,Green,Hill,LB,Hunter,Strawberry, Tucker/2nd

Adds alot of depth, could play 5 or 6 of the bench

And we dont have to blow up the whole team
