Kerry Collins to Arizona?

Just to stir the pot a little -

We got at least one on-the-scene comment from the past two minicamps that King didn't look very sharp compared to Josh and Preston.

I'm wondering if the drafting of Navarre might have represented "King Insurance" rather than to push Parsons, and that there's the outside possiblity that King's tenure here might be very brief and that Collins might replace Shawn as McCown's backup.

I don't see the Cards letting Shaun King go. If they do they will be flushing $ 500,000 down the toilet which is the amount of the signing bonus they gave him.

Doubt it. Green's going to want a veteran presence at the position, and having only McCown (few starts), Parsons (no starts) and Navarre (a rookie) as your three QBs is not very smart.

That's the way I see it too. According to Skkorp, Parsons looked pretty bad as well. Maybe not as bad as King, but King at least has had some success as a starting Qb.

Parsons days are numbered. He'll get a chance to look good against third stringers again in the preseason, but he probably won't make the roster.

I liked Josh's are strength, but after watching his backwards pass to Shelton I'm worried. Remember, he failed at his big college program and only succeeded when he went down a level. He has the tools. Is his head up to the NFL level for pressure and smarts?

Souther Methodist is barely a "big college program". It's like saying someone failed at Rutgers, or Vanderbilt, or Baylor, it doesn't mean much. Those programs are all very bad on a consistent basis, so players can look worse than they really are.

McCown played in an option offense at SMU, and it wasn't really suited to his strengths as a Qb. He transferred so that he would get the chance to throw the ball since his he didn't get to much at SMU.

If we were looking for a wildly inconsistent QB, prone to nightmareish performances in big games.....someone with horrendous mechanics that cause passes to sail or dive depending on the release point......possessing feet of stone, totally lacking in mobility.....someone who forces the issue from time to time a la Jake Plummer and who has a career ration of 134 INT's to 132 TD's....then that's Collins.

We will NEVER know...

what we have in Josh till we give him time to develop. I believe he will and having (3) guys w/"glue-hands" will help. One thing we are missing, and I'm sure Coach Green is aware of it, is a speed (homerun threat) back. M. Shipp will fight for the tough yards but we need somebody who, once he's clear, will show his backside to the opposing D. As for Collins, he's fine behind a solid o-line but if he has to roll-out?? Can we say, "picked off!"

I love this Board! Some actually have suggested that Collins back up McCown. What a joke that is! You have a veteran QB who has been to a Super Bowl and the past few seasons has seemingly redeemed himself on a personal and professional level. And, he's going to come and be a back up to a QB with 3 starts? I doubt it.

I am NOT for them bringing Collins in if it takes big money. But, as someone suggested, if it is for a bargain price I certainly would. Let Josh and Collins compete for the starting job and I bet Kerry Collins kicks his butt. Josh may have all of the "tools" to be a servicable starting QB in the NFL, time will tell. Personally, I'll save the "he's a future Hall of Famer" gushing until he starts for 5 to 10 years and proves it.

But, all of you who bleed Cardinal red and drink the Kardinal Kool-aide keep on gushing and proclaiming Josh McCown the greatest. It is good for a good chuckle once in a while.

Yes, that would be a 'great' idea wouldn't it? Let's plug in ANOTHER vet QB into the Cardinals who will retire in a couple of years. Because, hell, it worked so well before, right?

Yeah, lets bring in Collins. A QB who has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in his carrer and has a completion percentage one percent higher than McCown. And oh, how could I forget, who also lead the Giants to a magical 4-12 season in 2003.

If I had to choose between Collins, Couch, and Kitna, I'd take Kitna.

So, if the Bengals are brave enough to releace Kitna, I want to Cards to bring him in to challenge Josh. Truth is, I'm not too comfortable with King because he has not played enought in the past 2 years.
