Doesn't matter what we pay or give, if he works out it's worth it. If he doesn't Whiz is gone. ;)

I said a first. It is a gamble. If Kolb is 60% percent as good as we hope the offense will improve. Our first round pick won't be that high and a franchise QB is worth it. If he isn't any good, we lost the gamble. Honestly my preference is Carson Palmer but I answered the poll under the assumption that the Cards were targeting Kolb specifically.

I also hope that we still let Skelton compete. I don't want to give up on him.

I'd like to see a conditional pick. If we win the NFC west with Kolb's help then a late first round pick would be okay. If he does't do so well, then we'd have to give up a second or third.

I went with first and third because I think that's where the bidding will go.

nothing I want Carson Palmer :), or Orton if were still in the run for him. I'm just not real sold on Kevin Kolb and no way in hell should the cardinals trade drc and a first for kolb if they do that I will be extremly unhappy. Just make a smart decision on whatever qb please cardinal front office.

It depends how long the lockout lasts. If everything is resolved within a month, which is doubtful, I'd be ok trading a first.

However, if the work stoppage continues into July, the risks attached become much greater. An abbreviated offseason means less time for bad teams from last year to improve. With a new QB and defensive scheme, the chances of another 5-11 season for this team increase dramatically, meaning the pick we'd be sending would be in the top 10. In that case, I'd offer no more than a second. Or just sign Hasselbeck and hope for the best.

What is your "hope" for Kolb, earthsci? I mean this as an honest question: What do you think that Kolb's ceiling is?

It should come as a reminder that if we trade for Kolb and it's anything more than a mid-round pick, we're going to have to sign him to a contract extension that's in the ballpark of six years, $65 million, $28 million guaranteed, with some $32 million coming in the first three years.

Such a contract would effectively end the development of John Skelton as anything more than a #2 and future trade bait.

I'd prefer that to just blindly giving up any sort of first round pick.

This. I went with second round pick, but I'd prefer to have Palmer as well.

I predict if we get Kolb, he'll suck and, if we don't get him, he'll rock.

I'd be okay giving up a first and a late round pick. But I wouldn't want to give up a first and a starting vet.

I put in first and third round picks, I would prefer to go lower but feel that in a bidding war we may have to give up more. Its a gamble for sure but I think he is the best one out there that will be available.

2nd round pick and no more, but he's a bad idea IMO in the first place.

Personally I'd never in a million years extend him, not until he started and proved what he was worth, there's no real downside to that move.

He's going to get huge money based on a guess or you can wait a year and if you have to give him huge money it'll be because of performance.

What I think his ceiling is? I hope as high as, say, Jeff Garcia or Jake Delhomme (before the Cards D shellshocked him). After that, who knows what the limit could be? There are a lot of really good QBs that played well beyond everyone's expectations.

Do I really think that Kolb is that good? No. That's why he isn't my first choice (Palmer). Or even my second (Bulger). I like Palmer because I actually believe that he still has it. I like Bulger because I think that he is decent and it would allow for the further development of Skelton.

Yeah, I agree with you here. Absolutely. A lot of contract to give an unproven guy, but on the other hand, the Cards are running a pretty low payroll as far as the players go. If there is a CBA they will have to spend the money somewhere, but I agree that if they do that, Skelton will basically become an afterthought. If we we are going to put our eggs in that basket, let's do it with Palmer.

This is a good option. Though I would rather go another route as far as QB goes I just hope that the front office is decisive.

So you'd be happy dealing out a first-round pick for a guy who might (at his best) have a career QB Rating of 87.5? Garcia's best year was his second year in the league, where he played 16 games and passed for 4,000 yards on a team loaded with talent both on the field and on the sideline.

I wouldn't have given up a first-round pick for Delhomme in his prime. I understand the desperation of Cardinal fans for middling NFL QB performance, but not in giving up a first-round pick for a guy whose ceiling might be Jeff Garcia.

in other words "privately, the cardinals are already starting to spin why they went with the cheapest option with Bulger."

[FootballQuestionPleaseDon'tFlyOffTheHandle]I don't know how to read this. Do you think that Kevin Kolb is a good player that the Cards aren't willing to pay for, or do you think that the Cards need to pay whatever price (preferably the higher the better) in order to show fans that they're serious about finding a solution to the QB problem this year[/FootballQuestionPleaseDon'tFlyOffTheHandle]

I don't really want our QB to be Kolb, but I am not about to say nothing as he obviously is worth something. If you don't believe that, then stand by and watch the bidding war. I just hope we don't get deeply involved in it.

I prefer Carson Palmer, probably more because of the crap he had to endure with having to put up with TO and Ocho Cinco. He has truly served his time in hell, and wasn't he in Cleveland before that? I think he would love it here in Az with our weapons, and that we would love him too. He could be a long-time solution for us if we can get their owner to deal him.

If Cincy won't deal, then I prefer Hasslebeck or Bulger in that order as a short term solution.

I'm saying that the Cardinals at the end of the day will find excuses for anyone or everyone which will force them into a) taking a risk or b) spending a lot of money or c) both. They'll go cheap and they'll go retread.

and jesus, dude... stick to football. i don't fly off the handle to people who don't make snarky comments for no reason... like you just did.
