Reminds me of when Santa Ana predicted Mexico would defeat the USA in the Mexican-American War.

I understood the first time you explained it why you felt it was a bad comparison.

I never said it was a comparison. I said it reminded me of that, which it did.

Gotcha. I can see that. One prediction reminded you of another...

Westphal predicted his team would do something that had always been done before. Smith is predicting his team will do something that has never been done before.

You can't say "no way" to any team in the NFL.

The Dolphins went from 1 win to a playoff birth.
The Cardinals went from 1 playoff win in 10 years to a super-bowl birth.

In today's NFL, with a razor's edge of difference between teams, there's no reason the Lions can't make some noise.

Heres the difference. Those teams brought in guys with rings and brought in guys they knew to make it a complete 180. Trust me I saw both resurrections close up. When the culture is as toxic as it is in Detroit and has been for multiple years when NO players no anything different with that team, its going to take more then Jim Schwartz to turn it around in a year - even if he ends up being Vince Lombardi.

I am not saying it won't happen for him as I respect him and from all indications he is a smart guy - but he doesn't have the cred (and neither does Culpepper or Stafford) to come in and turn it all around.

Maybe we have another Matt Ryan/Atlanta situation on our hands. But alot of the players on Atlantas roster had had reasonable past success including with the ATL only a few years earlier.

Thats not happening in Detroit IMO.

But good for Kevin Smith.

I think they just had too much to go through in 2008. It was just 2007 when they started out 6-2 and had a couple of blowout wins so it hasn't been that long since they've had some success.

They have a lot of pieces on offense and have made some nice offseason moves to improve their defense. They will be a much better, much different team under Schwartz than they were in 2008. When 8-9 wins can get you into the NFC playoffs many years, it isn't far-fetched at all to give them a shot.

I like Kevin Smith. I like his vision, running ability, his high goals and his faith in his team, even if it does stretch credulity. Six or seven players on a team with Smith's attitude and talent can make a coach and franchise winners in a hurry.

agree - nothing wrong with his attitude - that is what everyone in every locker room should be working for

i don't see it happening though - i do think they can pull 6-7 wins though and play competative ...... it just takes a while to learn how to win
