GUys on the Chiefs board are foaming at the mouth about Hartwell. Supposedly from radio and net sources  The Chiefs are close to signing him. Hartwell asked for 11m signing bonus from the Cards, we said no. The Chiefs offered 8 then 9m. While I am not taking this seriously, the lack of news does make me somewhat nervous. Same with Okeafor. Anybody heard anything.

I rather spent the money on Smoot given we already have Hayes.

I wouldn't get too nervous yet. I find it incredibly hard to believe that the Chefs (and yes I misspelled that on purpose BIM :) ) will have the ability to sign both Rolle (whom they are also interested in) and Hartwell with as little cap space as they have.

i really would like the signing of hartwell, but at this point if we have to get into a bidding war I say no thanks and go after a corner. I want someone who will sign with the cards because he believes in what the cards are doing.

KC cant get into a bidding war with us. With their cap the way it is they have 2 choices, sign Rolle or sign Hartwell. But everyday KC says they are a day away from signing Rolle that was 4 days ago, so who knows what is going on with Rolle and KC.

The Chiefs actually can sign whoever that want to, they have a lot of money tied up into some vets that the can cut and get under the cap very easily. Guys that they are already overpaying to begin with. There is no sense into geting into any kind of bidding war and over paying for Hartwell.

Clubs in tough cap positions will still be able to compete with us based on the bonus money. Its just a question of how many years do you spread it over to get it under the cap this year. The risk is possible cap problems in the future vs. being able to get a player that you hope can help you win this year. Players like it because they get more of the money up front and guaranteed and it's always easy to get a club to admit a poison pill in the contract (roster bonus, huge base jump, etc.) in order to force the true value of the contract to meet the current market.

While we do offer contracts that meet the value of the current market via higher salaries against number of years, we don't really have much of a chance against anyone if we can't compete on the bonus.

I would rather sign Rolle and let them have Edge. I am thinking, given the lack of TE interest, that Anthony Becht could be had for a bargain basement price.

Actually Becht has been getting some play as of late and has like 6 teams he is visiting this week.
