After seeing the Cowboys' kicker booting the pigskin out of the endzone on almost every kickoff, I guess the Cardinals got envious. Carpenter doesn't seem like an upgrade to me.

He blamed everyone else for "not lining up correctly"
Doesn't mean he wasn't correct, it is preseason so it wouldn't be surprising if they were indeed lined up wrong. Also if I remember correctly his quote was "We were lined up wrong and I should have called a timeout". Sounds like he noticed this before the snap and got distracted and shanked the FGA. Also sounds like he is taking responsibility for the miss by saying that he should have called timeout instead of letting the ball be snapped with the team lined up wrong.

How about just keeping it together and making the stupid kick? Is he going to be distracted by goofy signs in the end zone too?

Come on man..

I think there is a significant difference between the line being lined up wrong and paying attention to signs in the end-zone. Also I agree that he still should have made the kick. I mean it still was only a 30 yarder.

Haha, true. Just busting it up. Feely seems like a jerkyjerkface. Feel free to call the timeout or keep your mouth shut. No you, "feeley"

I have a feeling he wasn't trying to call out his teammates, but either way a player needs to be careful what they say to the media. I took it as him blaming himself in the end, but he probably should have just taken the blame for the kick itself instead of a mental error that includes his teammates making a mistake.

Carpenter has 5 more 50+ yard kicks (20) in his 5 year career than Feely has hit in his 13. Feely also puts pressure on our coverage unit because he rarely gets touchbacks. They're only 1% apart in career percentage, and given how many more long ones Carpenters is kicking it leads me to believe he is an obvious upgrade.

Missing a 30 yarder and then blaming it on your teammates will make that happen.

Feely is a below average kicker with a noodle leg. We frequently punt where other teams are taking points.

WTF Kicker did you guys watch last year?

He hit a 61 yarder and was what? 25 of 28?

Tough crowd, geeezus

His weakness is maybe kickoffs, but our special teams kept field position manageable after kickoffs last year (IIRC)

Carpenter already beat out Feely once before in Miami.

I think opponents average return was around 26. For some reason I can't find the stats for that on a league wide basis but the top 5 teams in kick return yards gained were around 26. But from bottom to top its about 5 yards difference so don't know how much that matters.

Yes, he hit one miracle kick. It was one of his two attempts over 50 yards because he can't kick long ones.

His touchback percentage of 41% was a career high and WAY off his career norm. Basically last year was as good as it got. So do you go with the 13 year career or do you gamble on a repeat of a statistical peak?

do we forget he choked away a chip shot after hitting the 61 yarder? Very Neil Rackerish. Carpenter has been lights out the past two years under 50 yards missing a total of 5 in that two year span under 50 yards as opposed to feelys missed 7. Not really that much difference except carpenter is better on kickoffs.

Yes they do forget. They only remember the ones at the end of the game.

But you forget right after the 61 yarder he missed a chip-shot that cost us the game.

So, 50% of the time? Is that better than Feely's touchback %?

Outdoors carpenter has a 46 percent touchback rate and feely only has 31. That is with carpenter attempting 35 more KOs outside as well so he should do closer to 70 percent in a dome.
