i don't normally watch reality tv, but i've seen a bit of this show before and the entire episode tonight and i'm shocked at how brilliant these kids are.

if you've got a heart and like kids, this show is really impressive as are the kids on it. check it out.

I have been watching, I not only like kids but am a RTV junkie--after Pirate Master I swore I wouldn't but well once a junkie :).

I would be curious to know how much behind the scenes assistance they are getting. As you say some of their decisions are brilliant but for the most part they don't seem any smarter than your average kid, some are slowed down by being out of their comfort zone and the almost sudden breakdowns into deep bouts of homesickness that occur seem incomplete.

The folks in charge were thinking with the gold star thing, keeping some of the kids in line trying to earn one. As a kid I would have thought it was a great adventure, but we weren’t the type to suffer from separation or homesickness.

you raise a good point. they have to be getting SOME behind the scenes assistance otherwise no parent in their right mind would allow their 8 year old to do this.

and i don't find myself around a lot of kids, so maybe i underestimate all kids, but i think some of these kids say and do some incredibly enlightened things. though now that i think of it . . . the religion episode had a big disconnect. at one point everyone was railing on each for their respective religions and no one showed for the "planned service," and then one girl walks around asking kids to pray and they all not only come out but pray together peacefully and lovingly? i think they may have had a little help in getting there.

i too would have loved this. i was a summer camp junkie as a kid. attended three separate sleep away camps in the same summer one year.
