No one can no for sure who will be the franchise QB and who will not. All the experts had Bradford as the best QB and he was selected #1 by St Louis and he has been the starter. It appears he is as advertised and will be the St Louis QB for years to come. The experts now say Mallet is the second best QB and Kiper has him going in the eight slot of round one. To think he will be there in round two is almost next to zero chance. The Cards need a QB worse than any team in the NFL and they IMHO will be fools if they do not take one. There appear to be 3-4 NFL ready QBs. We had better get one while we are likely to be in a position to get one. We cannot continue to live with castoffs from other teams. Every forecast I have seen have the Cards taking a QB. Why not as that is the most important position on any team. Look just where we are now which is the result of having no QB. One never knows what management will do. They may not take a QB and we will sign another Derrick Anderson. We do not even have a QB in waiting.

John,
I really have only see Mallet play one game and that was against Alabama and he wasn't that impressive throwing 3 interceptions. However you have seen a lot of him and I certainly respect your opinion. I agree with you that the Cards must address the qb for sure and there are going to be some good ones in the draft that could hopefully be developed.

Mallet is going to have to prove to me to be stronger not just physically but mostly mentally. Dude is SOFT in both area's IMO.

This is all assuming Mallet and/or Luck even come out early.

I can assure you that Mallet is coming out. I am in Little Rock and see him almost daily on TV doing interviews. He would be foolish not to come out when he is projected to go in the top ten picks. He is also listed in most services as either the number 2 or number 3 best QBs available. In his last two games the TV commentators who were either former NFL players or coaches made note of the fact that he had become a take charge guy on the field and had a real presence on the field. I have noticed a lot of difference between this year and last year. He is a field general this year and he is tough both mentally and on the field. His accuracy speaks for itself. Whether all this will transfer to the NFL no one can really say. I thought Matt Leinart was going to be our saviour. We are in a position to get one of the top three QBs and I hope we take one. It may not be Mallet but it sure should be a QB. He will get a good look over at the combine and will be tested in the upcoming LSU and Mississippi State games. They will determine just what bowl we will go to so there is a lot of pressure from the fans, coaches to win. LSU will be double tough. My greatest concern with Mallet is his 6'7" heigth. He has a quick delivery but even so with those long arms he will not get the ball out of there as fast as a smaller QB. Of course he can see the field better

Everyone said the same thing about Matty boy, he stayed. Most recently everyone said the same thing about Locker, he stayed. Every year we here about assured top 10 picks only to stay in school, especially at the QB position.

I think Leinart is a cautionary tale on why you should go. He went from consensus #1 one year and fell to #10 the next. It doesn't dictate performance (Aaron Rodgers fell further), but Leinart lost guaranteed money and a year of income--and his troubles since then should magnify it in the prospective draftee's eyes.
