I dont see Wells bringing us anything that we dont already get from Hightower. A little bit faster, cool stiff arms. But thats it, really.

I wouldnt be devastated with him, but the injury concerns are a real turnoff.

Cbus, when I met you in person at the party before the Eagles game, you seemed like a reasonable guy.

This manlove is causing me second thoughts.

Plus is anyone else scared by the "big ten backs" thing. They haven't had just ton of success in recent years.

How many highly touted Big Ten backs have there been lately? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Mendenhall and he got hurt early in the season so we can't judge him yet.

Laurence Maroney, Chris Perry, Larry Johnson & T.J. Duckett were the last four 1st rounders out of the Big 10.

What an A list :D.

If we get Beanie Wells, I assume his glass body will harden through the Lott program, that is what I am at least hoping for. I'd much rather have Moreno or McCoy than have Wells be another notch on the Cardinals bust list.

all them were bottom half of the first round -- and the 50% hit rate is pretty consistent with the hit rate at that part of the draft

I would be thrilled if the Cards took a back that turned out as good as Maroney or Johnson

You can add Rashard Mendenhall to that list as well.

If you go further back you get names like Micheal Bennett, Ron Dayne, Curtis Enis and Tim Biakabutuka before you get to Eddie George in 1996. Those are all the Big Ten backs taken in the first round, not just cherry-picking the ones that fit the bust or underacheiver label.

Once you get past George, the trend continues with Curtis Enis, Tyrone Wheately, Robert Smith, Vaughn Dunbar and finally Blair Thomas in 1990.

That's almost 20 years of draft history and you've got Eddie George and maybe Larry Johnson as truly successful backs to come out of the Big Ten.

An oft injured back and a loudmouthed thug does beat our current situation.

Last 1st round SEC Backs- Felix Jones, good until he got an injury=soft.
Darren McFadden- Bust
Joseph Addai- Good pick, always banged up
Cadillac Williams- Always hurt, Bust
Ronnie Brown- Good pick

Pac 10 1st round backs- Stewart- Good pick
Lynch- Good pick
Bush- Can't run, only useful as a receiver
Steven Jackson- Good pick

Big 12-
AP- Great pick
Benson- Bust

Looks like SEC is a 50/50 proposition as well. Pac 10 looks the best, but then again our last pac 10 back was a major disappointment to us.

It's far too early to deem McFadden a bust, he just needs to suck it up, put away the purse and play football.

Wow, McFadden's already a bust? He did average 4.4 yards per rush and almost 10 yards a reception. He wasn't great but that's not a terrible rookie season by any means.

I don't honestly think that, but some on here are already labeling Wells a bust and he hasn't even been drafted yet.

There is only one other player who could possibly still be availabe at this point in time at the #31 pick that I would take in front of Wells and thats Moreno, if Moreno is gone I run up to the podium with our selection of Wells.

Moreno or Wells would be awesome. All Wells needs to do is get us to 2nd and 6 or 3rd and 3. That will keep the defenses honest enough to open up the passing game. He has the size and quickness to that consistently and the talent to break a long one off too.

The Big 10 and their consistantly poor showings in bowl games is a huge reason people are clamoring for a playoff system. If OSU and Penn State didn't continuously make it to big games and crap the field, people wouldn't be so upidy about it. Big 10 needs to be on Bowl suspension for suckiness

You are going to like this Cbus, becuase Mel Kipers Rival and fellow ESPN draft guru Todd McShay also put out his mock draft and he to picked Wells for the Cards.
