It sure looks like we will have a shot at Mallet or Newton. Mallet is at Kiper's #7 and Newton is at #8. It is a good bet that the #1 pick will trade down for the best offer. What do you think Luck would be worth in our position of perhaps #5 or #6? Perhaps our #1 and #2? Would our owners even want Luck as he will end up costing a lot of dollars. Our owners did hold back money last year. If Luck is as good as everyone says I would easily give up our #1 and #2 and maybe throw in a third pick. In the NFL will he really be worth that much more money than Mallet or Newton? My guess is our owners will not go the extra steps it takes to get a player like Luck. That is based on many years of history with our owners. Newton has moved up considerably since Kiper's last report. You never know about these QB's once the NFL does there evaluation. Luck may look like the best thing since sliced bread to us but some teams in the NFL may fall in love with Newton or Mallet. One of the top QBs is going to remain in school for his senior year.

Working on the assumption that all the underclassmen come out and we don't win anymore games, then yes they will be there.

2 more wins and we could potentially drop to as low as 14.

It all depends on Skelton. Personally I think he's going to be good, I just hope it's for the Cards and not some other team.

Are we sure about that? I was trying to work this out with my dad last night.

Carolina and Cincy have 2 wins or less; we're not going to get in front of them. Denver, Detroit, and Buffalo all have 3 wins; can any of them win 2 more games?

DET: @TB, @MIA, v. MIN
DEN: @OAK, v. HOU, v. SD
BUF: @MIA, v. NE, @NYJ

I think Detroit could co 2-1 there; Denver might lose out, and I think Buffalo could win at least one of those.

I guess the Cards could get to six wins, but they'd have the highest pick among the six-win teams. To get to 14, the Cards would have to win two more games, and SF, WAS, TEN, HOU, MIN, and CLE have to lose out. I don't think that's a mathmatical possibility, because DEN plays both OAK and HOU.

I wish there were a draft order scenario machine where I could get the possibilities, but I think it's unlikely that we're picking below 10, and unlikely we're picking above 7.

If the #1 pick belongs to Carolina, I can't imagine them passing Andy Luck along in a trade. John Fox is a dead coach walking. The new coach won't have to anoint Claussen as his franchise starter for the next 4 years.

I am thinking Newton will go ahead of Mallet, and I don't know if we should spend a first round pick on Mallet, really depends on the Skeleton. Luck will be gone, if the Cards win out and Newton kicks ass in the big game, they will will be moving in opposite directions in the draft.

If Skelton doesn't look like the man for next year and we lose to Dallas and the 9ers, we will probably still be in Newton range. I too would rather have Luck but homie is gonna be long gone.

Who knows(?), I just want to win some more games this year, if Skelton can show some promise and continue to make good decisions, it would be soooo sweet not to have to worry about a QB early in the draft. Fingers crossed.

It would be ideal if we didn't have to draft a qb in the first round. For that to happen Skelton would have to really play well the final 3 games. Additionally we would have to sign a quality free agent qb. Finally perhaps draft a qb in round 2 or 3. (i.e. Stanzi-Iowa, Devlin - Delaware, Ponder- Florida State).

Getting a top 10 defensive player in the draft would be an excellent move.
We will certainly know a lot more in 3 weeks.

Other than Luck, there isn't a QB in this draft to take in the top half of the draft.

Get defense or OT.

Do you mean top half of the entire draft? Or the top half of the first round?

Mallet in the second would rule!!!

Looked at the KFFL free agent list for 2011 at QB. Not much there either.

That's why I've said for a while that this mess the Cards have created at the position will take years to fix.

Mallet scares the crap out of me. Questionable leadership, questionable ability to read complex defensive systems, and struggles with adjustments. Those three things add up to being a bust regardless of the physical tools.

I in no way am claiming Skelton is going to be an elite QB. But I think he is more intelligent than Mallet and definitely doesn't lack for physical skills. I was on the Mallett bandwagon for much of the year, but I have jumped off as of late.

My favorite sleeper QB in this draft is Kellen Moore of Boise State.

He will be that mid round QB that has a lot of success. His QB rating for the season is 185. 33 TDs to 5 ints. 70% completion percentage.

Best QB rating in college football in the 4th quarter.

what kind of size does Clemens have? I love his game in college and dude seems pretty unflappable. That 65 yard strike he threw on a rope with 9 seconds left against Nevada with a decent rush in his face was one of the greatest plays i've ever seen.

Mallet seems like just the QB this team would take who'd be a complete bust. he scares me.

I think Kellen Clemens is in the 6'2 - 6'3 range. And I do think he would be a great signing to bring in and compete for the starting spot.

Either in the draft or free agency, we need at least two more QBs. I would rather we take an OLB with the first pick ...If we are drafting at #7, you take Quinn, if we are drop past 10, Von Miller or Akeem Ayers...

I think if there's a DE/OLB pass rushing demon staring us in the face we almost HAVE to take him. I hate the way this team paints itself into a corner every few years.

Outside of that, I think we need to get better on the OL and realy work on getting better from the inside out. I agree with DDogg--if we can't get Luck (and I might go all ditka on this draft's butt to get him), then we should skip a QB in the first).

Makes sense.

I would trade back in if one falls to the later part of the round and there's a team ahead of us in need of one.

Kellen Moore later in the draft makes some sense too.

Kellen Moore would be a waste of draft pick. The guy is a good college QB against the weak talent in the WAC but he won't survive 5 seconds in training camp with his lack of size and arm. The guy needed a running start and had to use his entire body to throw it 50 yards :biglaugh:

i'd go Ditka to get him and then actually spend that 33 million bucks we pocketed this year to fill holes around the team in FA. Luck's the deal, period.

Ok, this means we should take Mallet.

You and I both are in a bromance with Luck.

You and I both are terrified of Mallet.

Conclusion...Luck will be a bust and Mallet a stud.

It's pretty simple, really.
