Tough for me, one of my favorite Bruins ever.

But I wish him nothing but success in the NBA, let's be honest another year at UCLA won't make him quicker or a better leaper. he's a ferocious defender, tough as nails, if he can get more consistency on his shot and improve his ballhanding I think he can stick. He's got a lot of Bruce Bowen or Raja Bell to his game just needs to be a more consistent shooter to be that good.

Good luck AA and thanks for helping to resurrect UCLA basketball.

Where do the mocks have him drafting out? I'd love to see his D and toughness on the Lakers, reunited with Farmar.

Vaccaro said last week his sources have Afflalo safely in the first round, didn't say where though. Some others say he might not be a lock first rounder.

I'd love for the Warriors to get him myself.

Just a great kid.

Arron Afflalo, UCLA's All-American junior guard and the Pacific 10 Conference basketball player of the year, announced this afternoon that he will make himself available for the NBA draft and will not play his final season for the Bruins.

Afflalo, a graduate of Compton Centennial High who has led UCLA to consecutive appearances in the Final Four, had explored turning pro last season but returned for a chance to try to bring the program its 12th NCAA title, and first since 1995.

Though he had until April 29 to decide, Afflalo said today, "At this point in time it's time for me to move on, do some different things. I hope everybody understands this is a well thought out decision."

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound guard led the Bruins in scoring this season, averaging 16.9 points a game. He ranks No. 17 on the all-time UCLA scoring list.

Along with Jordan Farmar, who left UCLA after his sophomore season and was drafted in the first round by the Lakers last spring, Afflalo was a key part of Coach Ben Howland's first recruiting class. Afflalo said he was contemplating a return for his senior season after the Bruins lost, 76-66, to Florida in the NCAA tournament semifinals, when he was held scoreless until about six minutes remained in the game.

For his career Afflalo averaged 14.8 points a game. He is also second at UCLA in three-point field goals made (209) and in three-point field goals attempted (560).

While various NBA draft projection sites have Afflalo listed anywhere from a late first round to mid-second round pick, Howland said he was certain Afflalo would be a first-round pick.

"Arron will end up being a first round pick," Howland said. "I've done a lot of research over the last week, talked to NBA GMs and there's a lot of people very excited about Arron. He will have a long and fruitful career."

His defense will translate, but I have no idea how Afflalo's going to score on the professional level.

Will be interesting. UCLA set a ton of picks for him, not on the JJ Redick every play is a double screen for you level, but he wasn't getting his own shot a lot. I think he'll stick but I see the upper ceiling close to Raja Bell and Bowen and neither of them was a hit right away, took them years to improve to where they could contribute on good teams.

I will say this, he'll work his butt off for whoever drafts him.

If Afflalo makes it into the 1st round it is because of his pre-draft workouts.

Screw the Lakers, I want to see him on the Suns! I think he'd be great as a complimentary player, on a team that has other offensive weapons the opposing team would have to focus on.

Chad Ford said the scuttlebutt among NBA execs is that Afflalo is late-second to undrafted material. :thud:

I guess we'll see the assumption is someone team or teams must have told Howland they'd take Arron or he wouldn't have told him that. If you think about it Howland wants him to stay, he isn't a guy liek Marcus Williams where they actually want him to go pro.

I hope he's wrong although selfishly I'd love him to be a Warrior and we won't pick him in the first round our pick would be too high. He'd make a nice replacement for Pietrus who's probably gone, would allow them some cushion too if Jackson decides to shoot off a gun again in a public place.
