My buddy told me it is a chick flick.

I can see why someone would say it's a chick flick......it definitely shows alot of things from a woman's perspective, but it also breaks the seriousness of a pregnancy with alot of "guy" humor which made this movie awesome IMO. My wife loved it and so did I.
The cast was great, the cameo appearances by Ryan Seacrest and Steve Carrell (and a few other celebrities) were really funny, and the story was well written.

it's basically a very funny chick flick. what i mean is, the storyline is all chick flick, the humor is almost all guy humor. this is one movie you can take a girl to and she'll feel warm and fuzzy despite the fact that you're laughing at someone farting bare-assed on someone else's pillow. that help?

We saw this movie last night and both thought it was funny. We are going to have to watch it on video to see what we missed while everyone in the theater was laughing.

I heard it was a good movie

Can't wait to see it!!

I agree with you on having to rent it. I'm sure there were many lines that I missed that were hilarious.

Saw it today. It was funny movie. Didn't quite live up to the hype, but I had impossible expectations, so it's impressive that I still enjoyed it.

It's not as funny as Virgin, but it's not supposed to be. It's more of a dramedy. If it were to be as funny as Virgin, the whole movie would have revolved around Seth Rogen and his pot-head buddies. Instead it attempts to be something more than Virgin, which I can appreciate. Virgin had heart with a hard-on. Knocked Up has a tad more soul.

Much of the dialogue had a snappy Babaloo Mandel feel to it. If Mandel were 25 again and had no shortage of lines about sexual organs. Lots of fast quippiness, but with the added benefit that Billy Crystal is not around to suck the energy out of it. Rogen and Paul Rudd should probably make movies together the rest of their lives. They can do their "do you know how i know your gay" kind of improv schtick without coming off as trying too hard to be Will Ferrell. They're very natural together.

I will say there are a few lack-of-energy holes in the script that make it hard to look past cliche'd story lines being thrown around like so many Friends episodes. This is where it comes in handy having Katherine Heigl fill the screen with her dough-eyed sex kitty-ness. You know you're being handed a plate full of left-over plot line, but you don't care. You just stare at her and pretend like you've never heard this story before. She makes it fresh.

Rogen is unusual as the disaffected, lumpy pot smoker who lands the girl way out of his league. I've seen this character before, and I liked it better the first time with Donal Logue giving us a pot-bellied Don Giovanni in Tao of Steve. That's not to say Rogen's much sweeter Ben Stone wasn't appealing. It's just that I was expecting Cal from Virgin. I was not expecting Rogen to play a virgin.

Whomever said this was a chick flick wasn't far from the truth. My wife cried at the end. She wasn't alone in the theater. But there's plenty of locker room antics to keep the estrogen honest, and this movie is a must see if only to hear Paul Rudd describe what Rogen wore to Rudd's daughter's birthday. I've promised my wife I will use those lines on my brothers for the next 10 years.

I couldn't agree more with you. I saw this last night with my girlfriend and had super high expectations due to everyone raving about it and I thought it was a good funny movie but the guy on the radio said it was the best movie he had ever seen and i would have to not agree with that. Katherine Heigl (sp?) is definitely the right girl for the part considering she looks amazing through most of the movie. My girlfriend cried in different parts of the movie which threw me off but she said it was just realistic......girls having babies must reach women in ways that it doesn't us men. After the movie my girlfriend asked me what I would do in that situation.....I said "no comment" Luckily the movie didn't ruin my night ;)

shoot, i already have plans for that day...

Hmm...I guess we have to wait for the next Apatow movie.

Saw it last night and absolutely loved it. It was like a F&G/Undeclared/Office reunion.

I love how Jason Segal, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill and Martin Starr used their real first names.

The two kids in the film are actually Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow's kids.

ok, I can't wait to see this movie, seriously.

As far as I can tell, it rides the line between chick flick and guy comedy the same way that Wedding Crashers did.

How far off am I?

I think the guy/crude humor is higher than WC and the chick flick factor is slightly lower than WC.

Wait, how could the cf factor be lower if chicks are crying in this movie. And there are BABIES?

I think you might need to adjust your calculation, again, only going off what I've read.

Guy humor higher does jive with what I've heard.

Crashers though, walked that line just about perfectly.

There are other parts to the movie that are so "guy movie" that it cancels out babies.

This movie was fantastic.

And I recommend everyone should watch Freaks and Geeks and also Undeclared before/after this movie...so many actors from those great shows.

I thought this was in no way a chick flick, but just a great comedy with heart.

this was a balancing act movie - i definetly enjoyed it - all comedy comes from rogen and his friends and his dialogue with paul rudd - there are some stretches without them that are devoid of laughter when they throw the chick flick stuff at you

it's also a chick flick in that she was able to keep the baby without any negative impact to her life - even her job as a TV correspondent was improved - and the slacker, no motivation pot head starts the process of dumping his buddies, setting up his own place and becoming the responsible man she wants him to be

however the guy humor in it was pretty good - some of the stuff didn't make sense (like rogen being a canadian illegal - with his dad also living so close) - but that stuff really didn't matter

one thing i didn't understand were all the kids in the audience - kids in the 8-11 year range - this movie is rated R for a reason - hope the parents have fun explaining videos of crowning vaginas, drug humor, condoms, etc to them

would definitely put this below 40 yr and WC - however it was very enjoyable and worth seeing at the theater

I saw it last night. While I wouldn't go as far as to say it was fantastic, it was pretty good. I mean, who goes and has a kid with a guy from a 1 night stand? C'mon...

I loved his 4 friends and their witty banter - good stuff. I was surprised they were all at the hospital while she was in labor.

I found it a bit long, though.

I've actually been to two movies in the last month or so. This may be a start of a new trend for me. Of course, my daughter's been my date both times, but whatever. She's fun :)

So, that being said, there were a few awkward scenes that I'm sure both of us would have preferred not having watched together...but we're both pretty cool, so it wasn't too bad. The movie was hilarious--loved it. Vegas was awesome & the chairs scene in the hotel room was cracking me up.

I am eventually going to have to stop making my daughter be my "dinner & a movie" date...she's going to be scarred...
