This is just crazy. I turned on NBA TV and the guy being interviewed mentioned how Kobe wasn't even old enough to be inducted in the Hall of Fame yet. That's just tragic.

Kobe was one of the fiercest competitors we'll ever see play the game. Condolences to his family and friends.

It was reported as a private, not a commercial, helicopter.

And that another Lakers player may have been on board.

The conditions were foggy, which is not unusual in the
Thousand Oaks area. "June gloom" all year round.

Can't imagine losing your husband and child in the same accident. I would be destroyed. Prayers for the Bryant family.

I believe the other player they are talking about is someone who played on his daughter's team.

Current information right now is that it was indeed Kobe's private helicopter, with a pilot flying Kobe and Gigi along with a teammate of Gigi's and that teammates parent to basketball practice at the Mamba Academy in Thousand Oaks.

I couldn't agree more with this take.

NBA TV just showed how the Raptors vs Spurs game started with each team taking a 24 second shot clock violation to start. The Raptors had it first and then the Spurs after. It was a show of solidarity to honor Kobe. Classy.

And like fellow posters on ASFN even if you disagree with their opinions.

I am sure we all join today in mourning the loss of Kobe, Laker or otherwise.

He was apparently on his way to Staples to possibly attend the Grammys. Tragic.

Heard that he was on his way to a basketball camp with his daughter Gianna (13). Heard two of the other passengers were another basketball player and her parent. So sad.

It’s sad because Kobe was so young, but even more so for his daughter who was just starting such a promising young life.

He provided many years of being a nemesis... But in the end, we are all family. Rip Kobe and others on board.
