I don't think the rule is literally that the hand is part of the ball - just the part of the hand that is on the ball. Heck, with the size of some of these guys hands you couldn't block their shots at all if the rule was more strict.

That's exactly the rule. And his hand was on the ball completely. Stupid rule, regardless, but it was a bad call (talking about the Kobe foul on Bonzi).

How is it a stupid rule? Im just asking.. I played basketball half my life and contact with the hand on the ball rarely alters a shot.. Now hitting the wrist will..

Ive never had a problem with the hand being part of the ball rule..

so you're saying that getting blocked doesn't alter your shot? you must be really good.

Because it is a serious judgement call that is missed as often as it is made. It's one of those that really, really is inconsistently called because it's almost impossible to tell what really happened unless you see it on replay. Especially the way players are taught to act on the court.

Oh, well in that case, I agree.. I was going on if it is hand contact while on the ball..

You pass the ball.. Or alter your shot.. Bball speed moves so fast you cant be one minded while playing it.. Always have to have plan b at any given moment ..
