Let's put it this way. If there was a draft with all of the existing NBA players connect there is no doubt Kevin Garnett would get taken before Kobe Bryant. He would be the first or second player taken.

Is it a fantasy draft? If I were building a team it would go like this:

1. Tim Duncan
2. Kobe Bryant

I would actually rather have Stoudemire than Garnett because I think he will be a better player and a better closer.

What's the Lakers record without Shaquille O'Neal in the lineup?

Shaquille O'Neal is a moron. Besides, he was obviously excited about a big victory. If Shaquille O'Neal played with Tracy McGrady he would be saying the same things about him.

I'm glad that people rediscover the 30-team "fantasy mock draft" idea of mine!

If contract is no issue, my mock draft for the 1st round:

1. Shaq.
2. Kobe
3. Duncan
4. KG
5. James
6. Yao
7. McGrady
8. Amare
9. Marbury
10. J. O'neil
11. Nowitzki
12. Iverson
13. B.Davis
14. Ben Wallace
15. Randolf
16. Kidd
17. Pierce
18. Gasol
19. Webber
20. Allen
21. Francis
22. Antony
23. Wade
24. Carter
25. Artest
26. Stojakovic
27. A. Miller
28. Brand
29. Martin
30. Odom

Is this the way you would pick, or the way you predict general managers around the NBA would pick? I guarantee Jason Kidd would displace Marbury in this draft if it was the way general managers would pick. I'll still believe Duncan would be number one unless we are talking about Shaquille O'Neal about five years ago.

I'm certainly projecting my assessment into the general managers' mind. :p Any GM would be extremely happy with either of the first 4 picks. So, I won't dispute your view regarding Duncan vs. Shaq. But I do think it's a lot easier to build a contender around Marbury than around Kidd. Steph has not been lucky with the teams he has been on, compared to Kidd.

More importantly, though, if you start making the 2nd round listing, you won't find JJ or Marion on it. That's the reason I can't understand the logic behind those posters who want to build around Amare/JJ/Marion instead of Amare/Kobe, or /McGrady, or even /Pierce, now we have cap room to work with.

personally i think that there is a really good chance that kobe is going to be the next ...................... bubba's plaything in prison. because no matter what junk the defensive team leaks to the media almost all of it wont show up in the trail and then it comes down to his word vs. the bruses on her neck.

I'd take Kobe Bryant over KG 8 days a week.

Even Shaq says he's the best player that ever lived.

What does Kobe have to do to convince some of you???

real simple, lead his team to 11 championship. micheal only had 6. wilt i believe got 2 or 3, bird got 2 and maigc 3. until someone who leads his team come show me the 11 rings that bill russell lead his team to then he doesnt even come close. heck i still rank kobe under jerry west, magic johnson, micheal jordan and the big o (oscar robinson) as far as guards in the all time greats. kobe doesnt even lead his own team now he is the #2 man to shaq.

Jermaine O'Neal would be picked at least before Amare as well.

come on man - come back to reality - the rich get off - Jayson Williams and OJ killed people and got off - and you think KObe's gonna go down - the realities of life in our country are simple - if you have a ridiculous amount of money you are above the law - whether guilty or not - KObe won't see any time and will go continue winning championships if he stays in LA or comes to the Suns -personally I'd just rather see him win them here considering the Suns are my favorite team and I hate the freaking Lakers.

And comparing KG to Kobe is a little laughable to me - I'd trake JKObe over him any day of the week - and twice on Sunday but am too tired to give reasons.

you don't watch a lot of Laker games do you? Kobe and Shaq have been equal 1 and 1 ever since their 2nd championship - Shaq was without a doubt THE man their first year but ever since then KObe's been number 2 to NO ONE and watching almost every laker game the last couple years - I can tell you - that is a fact.

Does it need to be spelled out?

Kobe Bryant will N-O-T go to jail. That's not the way the American justice system works when it comes to celebrities.

Worst case scenario will be that there is a plea bargain to a much lesser charge. He's not going to jail. Come on now.

until someone who leads his team come show me the 11 rings that bill russell lead his team to then he doesnt even come close.

The last time you made this inane argument, I asked whether you think Yogi Berra is the greatest baseball player of all time. You didn't answer then -- will you now?

Ok, so Kobe doesn't garner your respect because he's "only" won 3 rings... Charles Barkley didn't win any, so that must mean he was a really crappy player, right?

It's hilarious how idiotic some of these arguements become. You're comparing the days of Bill Russell (in a league MUCH, MUCH smaller than this and far less talented) to today? Are you kidding me? It's too hard to compare 2004 with 1995, for chrissakes!

I guess this means that Steve Kerr and Robert Horry will have to be ranked amongst the all time greats now for their 5 or 6 rings each.

yea martha stewart and mike tyson got off to didnt they? martha could buy and sale kobe and oj a couple time over easy and she will running her show from prison here short. and jayson williams will be going to prison here shortly too.

as for kobe vs. kg i would take kg first any day of the week. it is simple kg is a big man you dont go small over big if they are anywhere close in skill and the rebounding that you get from kg blows kobe out of the water.

I don't think KG and Kobe are all that close in terms of skill - Kobe is the better outside shooter/ballhandler and creator - easily - and they are NOWEHERE near close in terms of desire and confidence - there is no player more confident or ABLE to hit the biggest shots when the game is on the line - I mean with 11 seconds left last night - didn't everyone not only fear Bryant taking that shot - but also KNEW he was going to make it - the ability to do just that - or put up perfromances like he did in game 4 put him head and shoulders above Garnett. Bottom line - most great teams need both - A BIG and A SMALL - and Kobe is the best player in the league - while KG cowers at crunch-time (besides his prayer against the shot clock a couple nights ago) - much like Duncan most of the time - that shot last night was a prayer and one of the first times I can remember Duncan actually coming through in the absolute crunch against the Lakes.

Sadly - with this miraculous run right now the Lakes are on - I am starting to believe that he is overcome by emotion at this run and stays in LA - that being said - get McGrady - without losing JJ and pick someone else up great in the offseason with our remaining cap room because we are watching the next Michael Jordan and we all saw how many people beat him. It takes greatness to beat greatness.
