Nothing is certain yet, but this report is fairly suggestive:

Link

Both clubs made formal presentations to the free agent guard on Monday night, and the Charlotte Observer reported for Wednesday's editions that the Clippers would trade forward Melvin Ely and guard Eddie House to the expansion Bobcats for future second-round draft picks.

The Clips have now cleared space for a max contract, in a move that wasn't initiated until after both teams' 'final presentations'.

If this goes through, is there somewhere we can find a 'crow-eating' emoticon for Chaplin's sig? ;)

If Kobe goes back to the Lakers, then I think the Clippers allowed themselves to be taken for quite a ride by Kobe. Public relations move by the tightwad. I would love for Kobe to go to Clips, but I can't see it happening. Ely was the 12th pick in the draft 2 years ago, and they trade him for a 2nd round pick. Gosh, I wonder why the Clippers have sucked for three decades?

And if he goes to the Clippers, he will have taken the Lakers for a ride. He's taking someone for a ride either way.

If they can unload House (who had a terrible year with the Clippers) and Ely (who has had a non-existent career with the Clippers) and get something in return, I'd say it was a good move whether they get Kobe or not.

Well obviosuly if youtrade some unused parts and get something in return, it is a good deal.

However, the reported deal is for 2nd round picks. That is NOT a good deal unless they land Kobe.

Really? Eddie House shot 35.9% from the field and 6.9 ppg in 19.5 minutes. Even though he only makes $825,000 this year, that is still pretty dismal and his shooting has declined every year for the last four years.

Ely averaged 12.1 minutes a game when performing in only 42 games. Even for just $1.7 million, it is a poor investment.

Im not sure what you are saying. Ely especially is a PF project. He won't get time in LA because he is behind Brand and Wilcox. He should put up good numbers in Charlotte, and may actually blossom into a good player.

I couldn't care less about Eddie House, but for a cheap player, hes not bad.

The Bobcats are giving back 2nd round picks for these guys. Great deal for them. The Clippers get screwed unless they get Kobe. You just dont give a lottery pick from 2 years ago away (literally) unless you have something to show for it.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to pick up Ely for a second rounder. I'm just not sure he is worth a heck of lot more than that. His limited playing time has included periods when Brand was injured and Wilcox wasn't showing much, yet Ely failed to take advantage and show that he is more than a journeyman.

If Kobe goes to Clipps, I guess Lakers won't do the Heat trade. They'd rather let Shaq's expire than getting the burden of Grant's contract. Besides, Shaq made fun once about Kobe going to the Clipps and will lose his own dominant Lakers everytime. He might be motivated enough, under Malone and Payton's persuation, to forgive Buss' transgression. It's gonna be interesting.

God the Lakers will SUCK! Karl Malone goes to San Antonio if he doesn't retire.

Chad Ford on Mike and Mike this morning said that signs are pointing towards Kobe signing with the Clippers.

He talked with Q's agent and the Suns are now pretty confident that the Clippers will NOT match Q's offer...

The reason for this, he said Q's agent is a guy within SFX, the same as Kobe's agent (Pelinka)...

Actually I think Q's agent is Pelinka as well.

And if Shaq goes Payton wants out as well.

Grant/Cook
Odom/Walton
George/Fox
Butler/Rush
Vujacic

Wow Scary! ;)

But if Kobe goes to the Clippers, would LA still trade Shaq and be stuck with Grants contract or let O'Neal's expire... baring he wants to kiss and make up.

This is comedy, now LA is holding off on trading Shaq because of a "snag" in Odom's contract. Lakers are playing the same game as Kobe. Damn it Kobe, sign with the Lakers and get Shaq out of the West.

I think Shaq is gone which ever way Kobe goes. Without Kobe, Shaq has no real support and the Lakers will suck. The trade is not full value, but is a way for the Lakers to start over, while keeping Shaq means just counting down until he comes off contract.

It just keeps getting better and better.

I agree that Shaq is gone regardless, but like FDog said, the package should look entirely different.

It beomces a full rebuilding mode, where they need to stock pile picks, expiring deals and young prospects.

Not long term salary in Grant and Odom.

Odom "yes", Grant "no". Odom has begun to look like the emerging star that everyone expected when he was first drafted. Grant on the other hand would be a good player at half the price, but is way way over paid.

I think I might be the only person that sees Odom fading fast in LA.

He FINALLY got his head straight when he was able to get out of LA. Granted Miami isn't the dullest spot in the US, but I think the change of friends helped a lot (not to mention Riley looking over his shoulder).

Sending him back to the environment he nearly ruined his career in, only 1 year after he left, is career suicide IMO.

Link?

I have to admit I'll be amazed if Bryant goes to the Clippers. I really did think that the Suns were the front-runners if he was going to leave the Lakers, and I also thought there was very little chance he'd leave the Lakers.

Just reported by Jim Gray on ESPN News. I didn't know Kobe lived in Anaheim, but that's what Gray said. Gray said the Clippers are not bound to play in the Staples Center.

I believe that Kobe home is in Newport Beach.

If Kobe signs with the Clips that will be an unblievable thing...!
I still do not think he will do that. Can you imagine what Jerry Buss the lakers owner will be thinking if Kobe signs with the clips after trading Shaq away for Kobe....He may sell the team and get out of the business!
