OK then: Donald and D-Dog are essentially both right about our QB's. Our QB situation is what it is. Hence the organization must live with it, AND moreover, Whiz must learn to find ways to enhance it and 'grow' it while on the run.
So far, he has done the right thing this year, by selecting Skelton as the starter, (which then took the pressure off Kolb to perform when Skelton was hurt). Now the job gets tougher and more complicated. He will need to nurture the bit of confidence that Kolb has developed in himself, and do it without getting Kolb injured before Skelton is ready to come back and take over the reins.
The trick for Whiz now is, (having realized that Kolb can successfully operate the no-huddle offense), finding out how much of that offense he can incorporate to make our offense successful against future opponents without wearing out our defense. As he does that, he must also discover how to manage some kind of running game, that can use clock during the no-huddle. This will not be an easy task against the defense that Bellicik rolled out against his opponent last week. They completely stymied the run game against them.
This will be a crucial week for Whiz and company to prepare for. Nothing will come easily, as the East Coast road game, and super early start will conspire with the Pat's talent and expertise to create a VERY formidable set of obstacles to overcome. That said, knowledgable fans will be hesitant to get on the team, and the coaching staff for everything that they cannot overcome in this game. I am not saying that we simply chalk up a loss this week, but rather that we not be overly critical of a (young and new) offensive line, or an overtaxed coaching staff if things don't go exactly as planned.
What we do have going for us, is that this is a gritty team that is going to New England this week. They will work until exhaustion to keep from failing. I believe that we are better conditioned right now than NE is, and this may enhance our chances of success. We are also much younger in our back-up roles, so we should expect youthful mental mistakes to occur. If the staff can manage the level of mistakes to those we made last week, or somewhat fewer mistakes than last week, we may manage to be close enough to hang with Brady and company, so that we have some hope of salvaging a win late in the game. Keeping the score low will be key to that end.
Undoubtedly, this will not be an easy week for the coaches OR the players. It is, however, a game that they might relish being able to rise to the level of the opponent. If so, maybe we can find a way to hang in there and compete to the point that our conditioning can overcome their talent. GO CARDS !!!!!!!!!!
Come on man!! I like them both, I agree with Skelton being more durable and Kolb being the better choice if no injuries occur, but they all look like ******* behind this line at some point in time.
