I heard Gambo and Ash were confirmed in the paper a day or two ago. Does anyone know if this is true?

I know I have posted bits of this elsewhere:

This morning Wolf/Don had a sportswriter on from each of the home cities for all the candidates the Cards are talking to.

Awesome radio. Its one thing for the local hosts to debate the merits of each -- but to have the local writer who covered the guy give his take on his coaching abilities was great information.

I hope this is just an indication of the effort 620 will go through to provide solid sports radio.

BTW--Gambo and Ash will have Jaworski on in the 5 pm (phoenix time) hour for two segments

Gambo and Ash do the same thing. They always have a member from the other team and that teams beat writer on to discuss upcoming games. They do this for every Cards game, ASU fball games, and some UofA games.

Thank God their back, it was horrible with the alternatives. They were off during what proved to be the busiest sports time period of the year- bowl season, NFL coaches being fired, NFL playoff race, Darrent Williams murder, Randy Johnson trade, etc....

Hate to toot my own horn here, but both DevilFan and I called this from the minute they left Xtra..

I'd also like to echo DevilFan's sentiments-- Thank God they're back. The broadcast scene just wasn't the same without em.

It was good to hear them again when my alternative Jeff Dean who is a blow hard, but the best guy on the radio is on Xtra between 1-3pm.

I for one would wish Jacobs would go away and stay away for good. Go back to NY and stay there.

I disagree... I'm going with between 10AM-1PM on Xtra. There is no other to even think of as better :notworthy

Rome schtick is tired. He scripts his takes and obviously has writers to help him with it. If you want to listen to quality national radio listen to the Dan Patrick show at noon when he has Olbermann on. Hands down the best hour in sports radio.

Yea, I turn on Dan when Rome is at commercials... But for my money, nothing can bring a smile to my face more than Romey and the clones giving their opinions on anything and everything

I'm with you, I listen to the show more for the entertainment than I do for actual sports news. I can understand someone not liking his show, but for me, I laugh more during those three hours than I do the during therest of my workday. I also like Jacobs, although he is not nearly as good on his own as he was with Mike Golic years ago, those guys had what I considered a great morning show.

Doug and Wolf on 620 in the am for some quick local info....Tony Bruno in the Morning on 1060 for some great laughs....switch back to 620 for Colin... national scene mixed with more laughs and some love for Phoenix....Dan Patrick after him... Gambo and Ash after that....

Yep that is how I spend my day.

As for 910... jeez... there is zero reason to ever turn to that station except for maybe when they go to Fox national broadcasts late at night... YUCK! That jerk on now 1-3... what a clown. I understand people not liking the Cards or having negative views, but he is way worse than bickley and MJ and I only listened to him for maybe 20 minutes.

620's new morning show is a joke. How does Wolfley stay employed? He has nothing useful to say, most of his comments are "it's hard to be an athlete". And his voice is like Stallone with a bad head cold - untrained and low-brow. ESPN's Mike and Mike is a far, far better show. Golic has become a first-rate national on-air personality, he's worked hard at it and it shows.

Cowherd is a lazy blowhard, he gets on a point and restates it over and over and over. He follows the Bob Kemp "argue with callers to fill airtime" school of thought. Hopefully 620 will wise up and move Wolfley (if they really insist on keeping him) to Cowherd's spot and bring back Mike and Mike. (Since they call themselves "Sports 620" and not "ESPN 620", does that mean they're not a full ESPN affiliate any more?)

620 is too far in bed with the local teams. However I caught the beginning of Gambo/Ash's first show yesterday, and they pointed out that they are definitely free to speak their minds. Then they went on a "how does Rod Graves still have a job" rant - so I'm hopeful that they will be worth listening to, although I am still no fan of Gambadoro.

On Thursday afternoon, 910 had some substitute hosts on that were pretty good. (While 620 had a Suns call-in/kiss-up show hosted by Al McCoy and his sidekick.) Didn't catch their names, one was a Noo-Yawkish guy who only went by initials. They did a nice job reviewing the bowl games. Even did some useful call-in. But Jacobs started on 910 yesterday so I agree with clif, there's no reason to turn to 910 at all now.

I guess that's how taste differ. I only listen on the way to work but like Wolfley much better than Bickley and MJ.

Yeah, I agree with this. It just depends on what you like.

I don't consider Rome a professional journalist in the same category as Patrick, but his show is just more fun to listen too.

Also, I tend to prefer shows like JT the Brick and Bob Kemp because it is all open-topic, they don't pigeonhole topics for 1-2 hours so you don't know what you get. Gambo and Ash do this, and while I like it when they talk about the Cards, I could care less for an hours worth of boxing talk, so I turn it off then.
