Young quarterbacks have growing pains. Win or lose it was stupid to take Leinart out. Now the team doesnt know who the leader of this teams is, Matt's confidence is shot, and now everytime Matt goes in he is gonna think about forcing it so he doesnt lose his job.

Bottom line, Matt is the present/future of this team and no matter who starts next week this franchise took a huge step backwards.

I don't agree with this. Everyone knows that Matt is the future of this team. The ravens defense is one of the best in the league (if not THE best) and you had to know going in that they would show Matt a lot of different looks to confuse him. Whis came up with the idea of taking a part of the gameplan and giving it to Warner. When we needed to change to that gameplan Warner went in. I don't see the point of leaving Matt in to get clobbered and giving a game away.

Id rather take that chance if Matt is going to continue to play the way he did today...and the first game.

ML has looked bad or marginal in each game, including preseason...even in the game against Seattle he did not look sharp... give him some time to sit and watch a professional do it and maybe he can use his ego to motivate his improvement. Right now, ML is in over his head! AND, when he was pulled and was not even participating in the review of game photos and play calling...says his ego is more important than his performance THIS SEASON.

Start Kurt now and get wins.

Start Matt later and get wins.

If Leinart gets mentally destroyed by being benched, then he was never going to be great anyhow. What SHOULD happen is determination to get better and win the job back.

I'm tired of the constant "build for the future" mindset. That's for losers, and we aren't eliminated yet. I want to win now, dammit. And, so do guys like Boldin and Edge.

I would have voted differently yesterday. Today and after listening to the post game interviews, I go with Matt. Kurt was put into a perfect situation, in a limited offense he has mastered against a team that did not gameplan for him. Our standard offense is one the Ravens' D eats up, so I'm not surprised to see Matt struggle there.

If we planed to run the no-huddle hurryup spread offense package all game long, I'd agree with starting Kurt. I don't know about him in the standard offense, and I don't want to try that experiment on the fly as a quick reaction move.

However, keep using the hurry up package with Kurt in games. Fantastic change of pace.

I have complete and total confidence in Ken Whisenhunt. If he wants Matt to start, then Matt should start.

The most popular player is always the backup QB. Warner did a great job with a hurry up offense. We were screaming last year when he fumbled so many snaps etc. Matt has to start.

I agree with everything, especially the bold.

What is wrong with what they did? KW runs the hurry up and Matt does the rest... It's unorthodox sure but I never understood why teams don't do it.

I recall the years that Washington had Billy Kilmer and Sonny Jurgensen. Week after week, George Allen would start Kilmer, but late in the game, it was common for Jurgensen to come in to finish the game.

Leinart is the quarterback of the future. Let him learn and grow. And when he needs a guiding hand to take over for a while, let Warner come in for some education.

And start paying off the officials before our opponents can do it.

I voted for Matt because I want Pittsburgh's DC to have to prepare two game plans. And I will not be disappointed to see Warner come in on a regular basis, just to mix it up.

If Warner had been playing behind a Grimm coached o-line last year, Leinart would still be holding a clipboard. This doesn't take anything away from Matt, but when Warner isn't running for his life, he is Comeback Player of the Year material.

So far, my hat is off to Whis. As Donald said in a different thread, QB by committee. Brilliant!

I really don't see the benefits is starting Matt... This is only hsi second year, and with a proven QB like Warner, who we know can move our offense down the field, why screw around with Matt learning on the job??
Is it possible that Matt's backward slide could cause more damage than good, not just to the team but to his own development?

I say name Warner the starter now. Let Matt continue to absorb and learn from the sidelines and in practice. And next year, the team is all his...

I would start Matt and see if he learned anything but I would have a quick hook (alot earlier this time than 20-3 ish).

Warner is just very hot right now (like Hansel)...where he gets into trouble is the exact same as Leinart - holding onto the ball too long.

When Warner does it...he gets sacked and fumbles or just fumbles.

Right now he is hot and if Warner plays the way he did against Baltimore, we will beat the Steelers.

All I can say is that I like this problem WAY better than I liked the King-McCown debates.

Yeah, that was like arguing about which three-legged mule had the best chance of winning the Kentucky Derby.

I said this in another thread, but I'll repeat it. Success with Kurt is fools gold and extremely shortsighted. He may get a couple more wins, but after this season or next we will have nothing to show for it, besides an extremely talented team with a huge hole at QB(which = worthless). If Matt is our QB of the future then he needs to be the QB of the present to get there. I'm willing to suffer through growing pains for future gains. This is Matt's second year in the league. Very few great QB's are even playing by there second year.

I will say that Warner looked awesome and playing him is extremely tempting. I would have loved to see him in his prime quarterbacking this team.

Starting Kurt doesn't mean Matt's future is ruined. Matt is confused and can't find the open receiver. He needs more time to learn the offense. If Matt continues to play he will become frustrated and the team will become frustrated. Winning cures everything. Losing sucks.

The difference with Warner this year is the OL. He can be successful with a better blocking.

I was kinda hoping you wouldn't notice...but being ME, I couldn't leave it like that.

Thanks for being cool about it. :)

I don't agree that we can't take the reigns back. If Matt's as smart as everyone but Shane says he is, then HE knows he's not ready. I'm not talking long-term...just a few (3-4) games (at the most) for him to really learn from Kurt. I think it'd do him a world of good.

sorry linderbee, there are very few cases where benching a young qb ended up being a good idea. the carousel plays with their heads too much and then they start questioning what they're doing and thinking too much and looking over their shoulders.

agree with folster and gambit. gotta let matt take his lumps like aikman and peyton did.

Kurt Warner shold have been the starter last season with Matt learning from the sidelines for a season.

Matt then would start this season because he is the franchise quarterback.

However our coaching staff got that backwards.
