It sounded like an April Fools joke when Kurt Warner said it yesterday: At the age of 43, five years since he retired, an official with an NFL team approached him about coming in for a workout.

Warner, who analyzed Jameis Winston’s performance at Florida State’s Pro Day for NFL Network on Wednesday, wrote on Twitter afterward that someone — he didn’t say who — from an NFL team came up to him and asked whether he’d be interested in going through a private workout. Warner said that the idea intrigued him. (When he was asked if it was an April Fools joke, Warner replied that it was not.)

Actually, it’s not as crazy as it sounds. Warner is younger than Vinny Testaverde was when he last started in the NFL. And considering the state of the quarterback position in the NFL right now, there are teams that Warner could help. Most Cardinals fans would have taken Warner over Ryan Lindley late last year.

Tennessee maybe? ;)

Maybe if he's going to train someone and work out with them, then fine. People wanting him to return to play are insane though.

Age is a huge factor--I'm 45 and use an ottoman to put on my damn shoes each morning (it's a nice one, very padded, wood, and sweet looking, for my old ass body. Putting on shoes is a pain in the ass after a certain age, don't judge me), and I haven't been hit by anyone in probably 20+ years--give me a break.

But that's not even the deciding factor, what is is that he hasn't played competitive professional sports in 5 long years. Ever try to pick up anything physical after a year, two years? We're talking 5 years. Try to play basketball, just with friends, after 5 years, or swim, or tennis; anything.

It can't be done, not at a competitive level like the NFL, there's no way. It's not that I wouldn't like to see him play, it's just that it's impossible. Totally impossible.

(Gotta be an April Fools joke though. Even though some people on here still want him to play. Ridic)

Sure we all believe you have less ease in donning your shoes nowadays, but your body is where it is due to the life you have lived and experienced, just like the rest of us.

But as Vinny and Blanda have demonstrated, a professional athlete could play in his late 40s because they are physically gifted unlike mere mortals. And with over 20 years of playing and muscle memory plus HOF level talent, Warner has the physical foundation to have a successful comeback precisely because he is NOT like a normal person who lacks years of training and muscle memory.

As for me, I would welcome a comeback attempt by Warner. If he flops, he will still get into the HOF one day. If he succeeds and leads a team into the post season, that would only add to his remarkable story. And if he ends up with a contender who gets to the Super Bowl, now THAT would be Legendary.

I cannot imagine he'd consider a team like Tennessee. If he is going to put his body on the line for another pounding then I think it would only be for a pretty clear contender.

Freaking no way he comes back at this point. I guess it couldn't hurt to ask him though..

Yeah, it's probably Whiz saying something along the lines of "Please save my job Kurt! The system doesn't work without you!"

It wouldn't surprise me if he'd consider Tennessee. He has a pretty high opinion of his talents and probably thinks he could lead them to a title.
