Criterion for #2 backup QB should be that we can win at least half our games with him in there.

I think KW can do this. It's obvious he's aware of his ball-protection issues and has been addressing them with stuff like sure-grip gloves. He's a stabilizing influence on Leinart. And he did OK in the second half despite the expected rust (which meant that a few of his passes weren't spot on, but then again not off by more than a few inches).

If someone with similar qualities but more mobility were to fall into our laps, I could see us making a change. But truthfully, I don't think that's gonna happen.

I'd be very happy to bring Kurt back.

WOW! Really? Why?

Garcia is playing on a pretty good football team, at one point scrubs like Feeley and Detmer looked decent as back-ups too--the only exception was that terrible Mike McMahon. Garcia has been awful his last couple seasons as a starter.

if Warner was in Garcias shoes the results for Philly would likely be about the same.

I think Garcia is a a top 10 back-up but I think Warner is better..my opinion of course.

With our cap situation, penny pinching at the backup QB position is far from necessary.

Someone mentioned that they would rather have Warner over Garcia, and I disagree.

Maybe we shouldn't be penny pinching at the QB position, and I don't think that we should. KW needs to show me that his hands are not made of silly putty. He no longer gets the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I know the OLine contributed to some of his fumbles, but I no longer have faith in him to secure the ball.

That is certainly understandable. I haven't forgotten the fumbles and never will. But, it seems that Warner is trying to correct that. He got blasted square in the back against the Niners and I expected the ball to come out. But, he held on. Maybe the gloves help.

If he had failed to move the team at all Sunday, I would agree that he should not return. But, I don't think we had any three-and-outs with him in the game last Sunday and he managed the last game-clinching drive very well.

Let's see how he does against the Chargers.

His fumbling started in STL, progressed in NY, and then continued to AZ. I just don't see it improving.

Well neither are chopped liver as back ups that is for sure. If you took away Warners fumbling problem I probably would agree.

Or prudent. Obviously Matt and Kurt have a good working relationship.
Kurt is a quality person and team member.
I don't know of a single QB that would have performed well behind the Oline we started the season with.

The true question for me is how do we upgrade the #3 QB.

IMO we do not need one. We should use that roster spot for more depth on defense.

In an emergency, you can sign a 3rd QB mid year, or even better use Quan back there, and he becomes VY.

Assuming the Cardinals have Leinart #1 and a seasoned veteran #2, we should use the #3 slot on an athletic, extremely mobile role player - probably a young, raw talent who can be developed.

I think the book's still out because of a) whether or not the gloves will help on a continual basisi and b) whether or not he actually wants to play next year.

Garcia's raising his stock right now...tremendously, but buyer beware. He's in a perfect system for his skills and ability right now. Put him in Arizona and he might revert to his Cleveland/Detroit days. Just like most qb's he needs to be in the right offense. Dropback, downfield passer is not his M.O. so I don't see Arizona as a good fit for him.

Garrard/Leftwich are the reason Jacksonville can't win any important games or advance to the playoffs. Neither are very good overall and they both hold that team back. I wouldn't put too much faith in either to run an NFL offense.

As far as the offense slowing down with Warner in at qb I'm pretty sure it was by design. Green went into "hold the lead" mode and was only passing on third down a large portion of the time. I thought Warner looked good enough for a guy who hasn't worked with the starters. I think Walters is the biggest culprit in slowing the offense down.

Overall, I think it would be best for both the Cardinals and Warner for him to stay with Arizona next year. The Cardinals aren't going to find a free agent that will learn the system and players that quickly and Warner, by now, should know that starting over on a team that's rebuilding won't garner him much playing time. Let's see how the gloves do against San Diego.

Of course, I just remembered that Warner's in a bit of a lose/lose situation this weekend. If the Card's win, it will hurt their draft spot for next year. If they lose, it's one more bullet in the gun to get rid of him. Don't you just love meaningless games?

I'd love to have Warner back next year as the backup. There are better QBs that will be available on the FA market, but they're all up-and-comers who will want a shot at the starting job--not something that's available here in AZ.

If Warner leaves (retires/cut) and the Cards don't get a late-summer FA (a vet cut from their team in the pre-season), I'd like to see the Cards take a middle-round QB in the draft, too. There is no room at the inn for Navarre.

Garcia would be awesome here.

He gets the ball in the playmakers hands which is exactly what we do here, that's all you have to do here period.

That said, he's not going to be affordable for what we want and that's a backup.

I hope Warner comes back, he's an awesome backup too at this point in his career.

I'm guessing that Plummer winds up being a Raider.

That's an awesome fit for him and them, at least they'll be entertaining, I miss watching the old Jake, 2 picks in the first half then a bizzaro insane rally at the end.

It's entertainment at it's finest especially if you're not having a heart attack because it's your teams roller coaster.

The Broncos were just a horrible fit for him, he'd fit in with the Raiders perfectly.

Plus can you imagine the huddle with Moss after he jogged his route, the fist fight would be worth the price of a ticket.

I dunno, can you imagine him flipping the bird to Raider fan?

Probably find him dead in the parking lot.

Love him as a backup. That is his perfect role now in his career. He has the ring, he has the exp, he is a nice guy who can help Leinart. And if he had to step in and play he can still make some nice passes.

Leave the QB position alone.
