Kurt Warners Stats are SICKENING!!!!!!!

Can the Cards win with Warner losing the ball 3.5 times a game

  • Sure, they've almost won a bunch of times

    Votes: 6 10.9%
  • No way...stats prove that turning the ball over just twice a game is too much to overcome

    Votes: 15 27.3%
  • I don't know, 3 turnovers a game or Rattay...I just don't know.

    Votes: 12 21.8%
  • This Poll and It's Options Are Blatantly Biased

    Votes: 22 40.0%

I'm guessing here but I thought you can't advance a recovered onside kick?

Did Urban really lose 3 yards that's the first I've seen that mentioned so I don't know.

You can advance it. You can even score on it. Pretty sure it happened this year.

not if you're the kicking team. ball's dead where our guy first grabbed it. now on the other hand, if we were to kick an onside and the other team caught it, yes, they can (and have) take it the other way for a TD (i'll never forget that game against the Eagles back in 1996 where we tried a surprise onside and they caught it and ran it back for a TD... at least we won that game thanks to Boomers and Marcus Dowdell!)

I prepared a little chart to show how I felt about Warner as yesterday's game progressed (as luck would have it, it matches the S&P 500's chart from 2004):

As you can see, the game started out well enough, but the interceptions caused a severe erosion in my confidence (see "red" Points of Reversal). The confidence level went up in the second half, but reversed itself upon observing the delay of game penalty and the subsequent fumble (As someone else so eloquently put it, "Does every sack (of Warner) need to end with the ball squirting out like a greased pig?")

Confidence of Warner hit an all time low at the end of the game when not once, but twice, he was pulled out of the game at critical junctures.

The last sequence instilled a little of the lost confidence, but brought the level only slightly into the positive range. Since we have very few options at this point to replacing Warner, I've decided to issue a "Hold" sentiment on this particular player. But I would warn that this could change to a "Sell" if at the first sign of deteriorating weakness.

IMO Warner is playing better than he has in the last few years. HIs thumb appears to be no problem. Look how he played yesterday with all the pain he must have had in his left elbow. Making hand offs with his right hand backwards had to be difficult. I'm surprised all of them were completed. Then on the road against a pretty good Skins team we still had a chance with 7 seconds left. We are 3-4 and I still believe we will make the playoffs. This team will take it out on our next opponent.

Perhaps it's what you don't get. Qb's & their t.o.'s are often correlated to how good their team is. Brett Favre is going to the HOF & yet he has had 6 int games & a 6 fumble game. Put a good team around Favre & he'll still light it up, surround him w/ poor players & he will stink it up. Bulger has been among the league leaders in passing until this year where his team has been decimated by injuries.

One has to understand all facets of the game to make intelligent observations. How many t.o.'s does a great qb make when he has an average of 2.1 seconds to throw the ball like Warner has had over the last few years? In yesterday's game, on Warner's fumble, how many qb's would have held on to the ball after that hit. Guess what, Brady has had fumbles w/ like hits, so has Manning. Also, if the qb is throw to a spot on a given play, & the receiver doesn't get to that spot, who's fault is that?

And finally, ever had torn ligaments before? How many qb's play as well as Warner did yesterday w/ torn ligaments in their elbow? I've had torn ligaments & I know how difficult that must have been for him. I think he played miraculously under the circumstances. 99% of the qb's in this league would have sat out yesterday, & their team would have lost miserably. Here's to hoping your post is one of ignorance rather than stupidity.

I used to believe that Kurt Warner's turnovers doomed him and the Cards to failure. Then I looked at some nfl.com stats and compared Tom Brady's to Kurt's from 2001 to 2007. Warner actually has fewer fumbles, fewer sacks, and fewer interceptions than Brady. Unfortunately, he also has MANY fewer touchdowns. So, whatever you want to designate as the factor that leads to touchdowns is what Kurt & the Cardinals are missing.

I can't make a pretty chart, but here are the stats:
Stat totals from 2001-2007

fumbles (lost) int. sack (yds) TD rate
Warner 59 (21) 55 145 (889) 131* 93.8**
Brady 62 (27) 80 189 (1194) 174 91.8

*This number includes the 62 touchdowns from 1999 and 2000.
** This rate is Warner's whole career, I can't figure it out just from 2001 to now.

Truthfully, I think Rattay should start with a somewhat modified offense that won't allow him to get into too much trouble and Warner should come in at times as determined by Whiz to run the hurry-up offense.

As long as you give TR pretty good protection, he can be effective. That means we need to get the running game going strong and let Rattay do some screen passes and short slants with an ocassional bomb to keep the defense honest. Considering all the facts, he really didn't play all that badly against Carolina and with a little more practice and getting to know his WR's, who knows? It would certainly help Warner to not have to play the whole game with a busted arm.

Warner has been a great addition to the team. In the 39 games before he joined the team the Cards were 11-28. Since picking up Kurt they've improved to 13-26. So you guys get off his case.

uh, you do realize Brady's played in probably three seasons worth more of games than Warner does. The fact that Warner's fumble numbers are even close to a guy who's started ever game for the last 6 years is frightening considering how spotty Warner's field appearances are.

Putting Warner and Brady in even the same sentence at this point in there careers makes any argument one might have moot.

You guys crack me up. Kurt is widely consider a top backup in this league. He would be starting on quite a teams right now (Carolina, SF, STL, ATL, MIA, OAK, CHI?, BUF?).

Lets also not forget the pain this guy is playing through. Warner is an absolute warrior and the toughest SOB on the team IMO and what every kid who plays the game should strive to be.

You guys thinking that a guy who just came off the street a week and 1/2 ago could have done better is a good reminder for me not take very many people on this board seriously.

I totally agree that Kurt is our best option. Here's hoping his performance from here on it looks more like the 2006 S&P 500.

just read from the game notes thread that Warner has the highest QB rating in the LEAGUE in the 4th quarter.

Yeah, his stats ARE sickening... :sarcasm:

Just add whatever you want to my thread...

that's a bunch of garbage!

agree or disagree either it's fine, but changing the poll and it's items is wrong. The great thing about the board is the chance to discuss and hear what others think...but to go in and change it for your own amusement is a bunch of garbage.

The poll was to get a feeling of how others were thinking about the situation, not to add your own junk to it. If you want your own items then make your own thread and post to it.

what's to stop you from adding to others postings....then our words here are worthless...sure you have the ability through your options on your computer, but using them or not using them is where better judgement comes into play.

if we all thought the same way we'd never discuss anything...if you didn't like the poll you could have just ignored it...but I 100% disagree with you adjusting my posting just for your amusement.

I didn't like the options you presented, but I agree with what your saying here.

This situation reminds me of the censorship in the South Park movie.

If Chris Sanders bothered to change the poll, I am surprised he didn't just close the thread.

Seems that is what usually happens with threads deemed overly biased.

agreed, but there was no reason to even consider closing the thread or poll.

I offered, yes, no and maybe

the thread offers statistics that are unbiased...it's just a matter of how you look at them.

I see the turnovers as a big problem
others here state they do not...

I wanted to see how others felt though my opinion was clear, which is the point of all of our discussions...to discuss....
