Bickley went further and played the quote where Kingsbury described how much he hates calling plays.

It's entirely possible that this is letting Kingsbury focus on the bottom of the roster so Kyler is acting as offensive coordinator to let him do that. It would not surprise me if Bidwill is preventing Kliff from getting an offensive coordinator to save money.
Get out of here. If one of us would pursue this 'Mitchian' perspective... we would get banned by you lol

I am just telling you what was talked about on the flagship radio show this morning. That is basically what Bickley alluded to

I stopped reading or listening to Bickley 10 years ago. He has no sources, and just tries to be "controversial" and get listeners and clicks. Actually, Mich has a better imagination and knowledge of the Cardinals.

I'm not sure you can "allude" to someone "hating" something... thats a big jump...

When Kliff was hired, it was directly stated by Keim that they wanted an offensive player caller as the head coach because a good OC always gets poached and turned into a HC so why not eliminate that entire process by just making a good OC your HC?

Keim is really bad at drafting but I think he fulfills GM duties pretty well outside of that.

oh wow... OK then, that is interesting.

Is this Kliff just doing his "humble bit" to reduce criticism or an actual request to hire an OC?

He said he hates calling plays but he wouldn't get paid unless he was calling the plays.

I can see why it got the talking heads talking

Kyler calling so many deep passes looked like it was wearing down the backup QBs. It was fun to watch. I say let him call the entire game vs. the Titans. I don't think he's very good at play calling and him seeing that he's not very good will cause him to learn and get better, which in turn might help his QB play.

You're right, he did call the TD play. I do think he would run into issues calling a whole game rather than just the last 20 minutes, but I might be judging him too harshly.

Kliff generally does a decent job of play calling, although he gets redundant late in the season. If Murray shows he can call some decent plays in meaningless preseason games, maybe KK will listen to his advice once the real bullets start flying. Nothing bad can come as a result of what Murray is doing now.

Here are a few quotes from KK about Murray:

“He did a nice job. He was fired up. He was more excited than he gets when he throws one so I don’t know what that’s all about,” Kingsbury said postgame. “It was fun to watch. He was talking to those guys and doing a nice job leading.”

“I think he gets the chance to really back off, see the macro view of it and see what all goes into it, the protections and knowing where the back goes and seeing the coverage,” Kingsbury said.

“Then even the leadership on the sideline. … It’s just a good way for him to stay involved and just see it from a different perspective.”

It was great seeing Kyler out there being directly involved in the offense. KK found a way to go from a negative (4 hour clause in the contract) to getting Murray excited about calling plays and learning more about coverages etc. Brilliant move by KK. Murray looks pumped and ready to get on the field.

I don't think so. Just a year ago Kingsbury said he would retire if he couldn't call plays. I seriously doubt he would make a 180 degree turn in a year.

From Darren Urban

Excerpt from the article: Kingsbury was asked what it would take for him ever to give up playcalling duties.
"I would retire," Kingsbury said. "It's part of the game, I couldn't just sit there and watch it. A lot of people are great at that, managing games, and that's not my strong suit. My strong suit is calling it and interacting with the quarterback. I've got to play to my strengths."

Yep, that is how I remember it as well. I read the more recent quote and it doesn't say what has been mentioned here.

Agreed. I absolutely love that Murray is doing this.
