Cards make LaBoy deal official

The Cardinals officially made their second free agent acquisition Tuesday morning, signing outside linebacker/defensive end Travis LaBoy to a five-year contract.

The parties agreed in principle Monday on a contract worth $22 million, including $7.5 million in guarantees.

LaBoy, 26, was drafted by the Titans in the second round in 2004. He was primarily a backup but proved to be a productive pass rusher. The Cardinals will use him as a hybrid outside linebacker and defensive end, calling upon his pass rush skills in nickel situations. He will compete with Bertrand Berry for a starting job.

Tight end Jereme Tuman, a nine-year veteran, signed on Monday. St. Louis outside linebacker Brandon Chillar is visiting the team today.

Laboy is definitely a Whiz guy. He has a non-stop motor and will help provide depth. However, he is nothing more than a rotational guy at best and lets hope he can stay healthy.

One more good knock on the head and his career could be over.

Don't say non-stop motor...reminds me of what McGinnis said about all his players to justify why he signed them...oh, the famous one heart with a nonstop motor.

It was used for KVB a lot. Not a horrible label.

The flawed logic of Dave's plan is what doomed him. One heart cannot possibly power so many non-stop motors.

Personally, I like hearing that. I remember the knock on Wendell Bryant was that he didn't have a motor and we all know how that turned out.

Wendell had one....he just never turned it on......6'4"-315 and ran like a linebacker during practice. Worst draft choice since Anthony Bell....6'3"-230 OLB that ran like a safety....had the football instincts of a toad.

Not sure what the 7.5 Gauranteed means yet. How much is signing bonus, how much is roster bonus in future years and so on. If it was all signing bonus I am sure they would have just called it signing bonus but since they said gaurateed I am pretty sure it is a mixture of signing, roster, and/or option bonuses.

But the base salary for this season is only 750K. At most his cap hit for this season if the 7.5 is all signing bonus would be 2.25 Mill.
