I'd like to start this thread by saying that Christian Laettner is one of my least favorite players. However, he won't have much to do in Dallas, and the Mavericks are now thin at point guard (unless, that is, Harris is ready to contribute right away). Laettner and Eisley have almost identical salaries this season, but Laettner's contract is up in only one year, not two.
On a per-minute basis, Laettner is still a reasonably effective player. In a way, he would bring some of the things that McDyess did toward the end of last season, although no match for McDyess's athleticism even post-surgery. He could even credibly hold down some minutes at center against other small teams.
Financially, a swap is a can't-lose situation for Phoenix, and they'd likely profit on the court as well. The locker room presents a more complicated picture, but it might be worth the risk. What additional compensation might Dallas want? Will the Mavericks even consider trading with the Suns now, after the Nash incident?
