I know the Lakers tried to get Boozer last year, and honestly I think there are a lot of similarities between him and May. Plus, in getting May, they could move Lamar back to his more natural position and play a lineup of Caron-Kobe-Lamar-May-Mihm.

I know I've really open myself up to get hammered if May turns into an All-Star, but I do think there are some big physical differences between him and Boozer. looking at their draft measurements Boozer is 1" taller, and his standing reach his 4 1/2" higher. I think May is too short to be much more than a very mediocre starting power forward or a decent bench player. Even Ryan Gomes is bigger than him, and he has a better outside game.

Bynum is high risk high reward. I watched him in the Michael Jordan classic, and he didn't do much in that game. Apparently he looked very good in the McDonald's All-American game. Ultimately I agree with you that given the situation with Phil Jackson and the expectations of the Lakers to get better quickly they would have been better off taking Granger. If you are going to risk a high draft pick on somebody from high school I think it should have been Gerald Green.

Here's hoping that Bynum is a complete flop. I think everyone here likes you, LakeShowMan, but we hate the Lakers. :)

This looks like a Phil Jackson pick to me. Didn't the Bulls use a #7 pick on Stacey King back in the day? And another high pick on Luc Longley?

Anyway, I think Bynum has a chance to help the Lakers--it's just a matter of waiting a couple of years. They probably would have gone for Channing Frye instead given the chance, but they weren't.

The Lakers should be a good team next year; they'll probably make the playoffs IMO. Kobe should be a much better player now that he's had a year to learn what not to do, and I expect Phil Jax will find a way to integrate Lamar Odom.

I'm still not scared of the Lakers, though, like I am of the Warriors.

boom or bust pick. Knowing the Lakers luck and those damn NBA Gods, I fear ultimately it will be a boom. Here's to hoping that kid ends up like the Stay-Puft marshmellow man!

I admit to knowing jack squat about basketball, but...

The 10th pick in the draft on a kid that's 7 feet tall, 285-300 lbs., and he averaged ONLY 22 ppg in HIGH SCHOOL.

I mean a guy with that size and any, ANY athleticism should be able to completely dominate High School basketball. 22 points per game.... Ppppfffttt!!

Amare averaged a surprisingly low number in high school as well. In fact, reading his scouting report, a lot it reminded me of Amare's before the draft. Hopefully, unlike Amare, he's as far from contributing as everyone says he is.

What??? In every scouting report I read about Amare he was described like an "athletic freak" or a "phenom". This guy can't compare to Amare. Just look at their bodies. Amare doesn't have a gram of fat and look at Bynum.

Sorry. I didn't make myself clear. I meant in terms of how he was looked at nowhere near the top few picks, is considered a tremendously long term project, has a lot of ungaugable potential, won't contribute for a few years and is extremely, extremely, raw.

Don't want to compare Stat to this guy, but many pre-draft reports rated this kid as a great athlete for his size. He also got positive reviews at many of the private workouts he had with teams.

May-Boozer, size may not be identical, but I see alot of similirities in their games. Both are very good positional rebounders. They both have good touch around the rim. May has some great hands, and is a good finisher (the type of guy that would flourish playing along a guy like Kobe that can get to the rim and commands attention). They both find ways to score even when plays aren't run for them. Now Boozer has a better physique, but they were both thought of as too small coming in. I think May in a year or two is a 12 and 9 guy. JMHO.

As far as watching Bynum, I got to admit I haven't seen much. The parts of the McDonalds game I was watching I wasn't really paying attention to him. Plus, big guys, unless they can handle the ball like KG don't really show up a whole lot in those formats. The highlights I have seen have left me underwhelmed. Definitly has the size and wing span, but I didn't see the explosion that I would like to see. I guess he has good feet and isn't a terrible FT shooter. However I don't really see how that makes him lottery-worthy.
