I have not had time to evaluate but I just heard on the radio this morning that the Lakers have contacted the Hornets and Magic to let those teams know that they can have any player on their roster (except KB) and willing to trade future picks to get a deal done for both Paul and Howard. They want to build another Miami and are probably willing to pay the luxury tax as well despite the new rules.

That team would be scary. Kobe, Howard and Paul??? Those are instant titles IMO until Kobe retires. That's better than Wade, Bosh and LeBron IMO.

I don't think the Lakers have the pieces though to make such a trade do they? Not for both I would think but maybe I am wrong. I hope for the leagues sake this doesn't happen. This would not be good for the NBA to continue to build these "super" teams. It would make the NBA really unwatchable IMO for several years.

I agree, it would be frustrating to have this happen. The lakers have the trade bait to make it work according to some experts. Odom, Bynum and Gasol would be gone, but the Magic/Hornets want to make sure they get something in return talent wise (Although not very close) rather than being left out.

Count me out if this happens.

I've already started to lose interest thanks to Sarver's ineptitude as an owner. This would probably push me over the edge.

We wait until Summer 2012, but by then, all the big FA's have already found new homes via trades. Watch, it will happen.

Fortunately the Lakers have no assets.

Nobody wants Bynum at his price, Odom is old and Gasol almost 30 also and the picks worthless late first rounder and other than that the Lakers have no noteworthy prospects.

Yeah but Slin you know how this works. Those guys will give a short list of teams they will be willing to go to which will limit what teams can get in return. Remember...the Hornets and Magic have already indicated they are not wililng to let those guys walk for nothing.

So given the short list those two players are going to provide, chances are Bynum, Gasol or Odum looks alot better than nothing should they let them walk.

Hopefully, there is another team on those players list with much more to offer in terms of assets. If this happens.....why watch?

losing them for nothing sounds better than getting stuck with Odom or Bynum imo.

Bynum's a big young talented C. Even with his injury concerns, the notion that he's not an asset is ludicrous, especially since he doesn't have much time left on his deal.

if I'm the Bulls, I'm offering Noah/Deng and picks for Howard. A big three of Rose/Howard/Boozer would be pretty nasty and give Chicago that desperately needed second mega-star.

The NBA is going down a very, very, very bad road. In a future when four or five teams are the Yankees and all the rest are the Royals, I will officially rank Aussie rules football and women's figure skating above the NBA.

That just shows you what a joke the agreement was in this area. This new agreement was suppose to discourage teams from trying to make "super" teams. The Lakers are just scoffing at that.

If you remember a couple years back some reporter asked Stern about the league lacking parity and Stern basicaly denied it. Then the owners go into negotiations saying that it was an issue and Stern finally thinks it's an issue. Now Stern says the new rules discourage it.

What a joke.

Well, the new CBA does limit new contracts for non-Bird players to 4-years, 4.5% raises, so that's what Howard and Paul would have to settle for if they were to change teams via free agency. They'd have to leave a lot more money on the table than under the old CBA. Would they? Is it worth the risk for Orlando and NO?

What the new CBA failed to address adequately is extend-and-trades (or trade-and-extends). There's now a six month period during which players who were traded cannot sign max-type (Bird rights) extensions with new teams. Unfortunately, six months is not enough. If Paul, for example, is traded before the season starts, the six month waiting period will expire before his current contract does and he will be free to sign max extension/new contract with his new team using full Bird rights.

Unless, of course, you were referring to the current NBA status as a parody of what the former NBA used to look like :bang:

It would be a joke and a fraud for the rest of the NBA fans if this goes through. Why even bother with a regular and post season? Just have the Heat and Lakers in the Finals now.

It's a bit early to blame Stern and the NBA on this account. It's no surprise that the Lakers want Paul and Howard, let's see if they can actually make it happen. And if it does happen, it really won't be because the NBA failed to address the issue. It will be because the biggest names can more than make up for their lost income through sponsor deals and the agents also profit.

I'd rather have these stars on my team than play against them. Still have to have role players around them. No guarantee of multiple titles, but it looks good on paper.

Ha ha......I used the wrong one. Actually it still applies if you calling the NBA a serious sports league if this continues to happen. :D

So, how would that team stack up against Miami?

Kobe>LeBron (Kobe wants the ball at crunch time)
Paul<Wade (Wade is a proven leader)
Howard>Bosh (not even a contest here)

This prospect must be scaring the Heat silly.

Lebron is a better player than Kobe.

:biglaugh:

Sure...if choking and not showing up on the biggest stage in the NBA is your criteria. I hate Kobe's freaking guts. Can't stand him one bit but he is still better than Lebron.

He was not even the best player on his team IMO.
